Job Title: Manager - Operations
Reports To: Director of Operations
Location: Midland (North Permian)
Overview:
The Manager is responsible for efficiently deploying and managing equipment, materials, and personnel to job sites, optimizing costs and maximizing manpower utilization. This role ensures adherence to company maintenance standards, drives operational excellence, supports customer satisfaction, and promotes employee engagement and development. The Manager is expected to spend approximately 25-50% of their time in the field performing PM audits, inspecting units, mentoring technicians and leads, monitoring performance, and maintaining direct customer contact.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight (Day-to-Day):
•Coordinate equipment, personnel, and material deployment for maximum efficiency and minimal cost.
•Manage service calls and ensure timely and accurate completion of paperwork and reporting.
•Approve and oversee requisitions (reqs), AFE updates, vehicle requests, and third-party vendor needs.
•Maintain unit routes and review preventative maintenance (PM) reports and fleet list accuracy.
•Manage employee hours and review coding for time approvals.
•Track unit moves, sets/releases, tank tasks, and ensure maintenance completion documentation.
•Prepare and review down lists, operations update reports, and weekly runtime/emissions performance (Emit).
•Maintain proper staffing and escalate downtime risks before they escalate.
•Spot check for underperforming units and assist with creating corrective run plans.
Customer Service & Communication:
•Serve as primary customer contact for assigned service area.
•Attend customer meetings, answer inquiries, and support updates on jobs and downtime.
•Make proactive visits or calls to build rapport and address improvement areas.
•Ensure communication gaps are closed and updates are relayed promptly.
Leadership & Team Development:
•Set team members up for success through coaching, recognition, and clear expectations.
•Identify staffing adjustments and conduct interviews when needed.
•Support employee retention by promoting morale, hosting informal team-building (e.g., breakfast/lunch), and acting on feedback.
•Review training completions (e.g., KPA safety training), JSA quality, and performance metrics.
•Address training needs and develop leads in technical and supervisory skills.
Reporting & Systems:
•Oversee system inputs related to downtime, PM checklists, and service descriptions.
•Utilize Microsoft Office and internal tools (Emit, OneNote, Kepler) to track performance and operational needs.
•Maintain accurate data in fleet systems, including real-time updates and maintenance needs.
•Own and manage the list of “no communication” units in Emit and ensure resolution.
Safety & Compliance:
•Enforce and model adherence to Nova Compression’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Policy.
•Investigate incidents and near-misses, improve JSAs, and ensure PPE compliance.
•Coordinate with the Safety team on course completions and field implementation.
Problem Solving & Innovation:
•Analyze performance and budget data to drive improvements.
•Implement recovery and preventive actions to avoid service disruption.
•Recommend and execute long-term solutions for recurring issues.
Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
•High school diploma or GED required; associate/technical degree preferred.
•Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Experience:
•8–10 years of experience in Field Service, with 3+ years in a lead/supervisory role.
•Proven safe and successful service record.
Knowledge:
•Field Service operations, labor planning, customer service, and equipment.
•Budgeting, scheduling, HSE procedures, and compressor equipment (multiple makes/models).
•Financial impacts of operational decisions.
Technology:
•Proficient in Microsoft Office and fleet management/maintenance software.
Abilities:
•Strong leadership, coaching, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
•Effective verbal/written communication and report generation.
•Capacity to manage labor, prioritize tasks, and implement standards.
Physical Requirements:
•Must meet medical and PPE requirements (including respiratory protection).
•Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 110 lbs.
•Capable of climbing equipment, kneeling, squatting, and crawling as needed.
•Regular use of hands, visual acuity, and frequent driving/sitting.
