The Chemours Steam Facility in Penn's Grove, New Jersey, provides critical process steam to the Chemours facility. The plant features two dual-fuel auxiliary/package boilers with a steam flow rating of 60,000 to 82,500 lbs/hr, fired on natural gas and fuel oil, with a third rented boiler ensuring winter reliability. Operations include water treatment, high-voltage switchgear monitoring, fuel oil system operation, and steam system management, with the facility running year-round under annual renewal contracts.
Opportunity Summary
The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician will be responsible for performing a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks, including welding, machining, and troubleshooting machinery, while ensuring quality control and adherence to safety and environmental regulations. They will collaborate with all departments, coordinate contractor work, and provide training to others as needed, contributing to the seamless operation of the plant. Additionally, the technician will maintain plant equipment, track spare parts usage, and assist in maintaining technical documentation and preventive maintenance records.
Primary Functions
Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician will include the following primary functions:
•Operate plant steam boilers and auxiliary support equipment, including startup and shutdown as needed, while maintaining compliance with environmental permits.
•Operate the reverse osmosis and demineralizer water systems and perform daily water and steam system chemistry testing.
•Manage steam pressure and flow to meet plant demand while ensuring proper operation.
•Monitor and adjust emissions control systems, such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR), to maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
•Operate and adjust control loops, sensors, and automation systems (PLC/DCS) to maintain safe and efficient plant performance.
•Operate high-voltage switchgear and breaker equipment as needed.
•Perform emergency shutdowns (ESD) and troubleshoot unplanned trips to ensure the rapid and safe recovery of plant operations.
•Maintain boilers and auxiliary equipment. Troubleshoot machinery, identify mechanical design issues, recommend improvements, and suggest modifications necessary for resolution.
•Perform repair and maintenance tasks as needed.
•Maintain a detailed log of time, materials, procedures, and other relevant information in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), tracking progress in the MP-2 system or equivalent.
•Adhere to safety and environmental rules and regulations, implement safe work practices, and promptly identify hazards, recommending or implementing necessary repairs.
•Collaborate with all departments to support plant goals and ensure the steam supply required for the manufacturing process.
•Provide training to others as needed.
•Maintain cleanliness and organization of the plant and work areas at the conclusion of each job/task.
•Track spare parts usage and complete reports for replenishment, assisting with physical inventories as needed.
•Participate in the administration and maintenance of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
•Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Working Relationships
Reports to the Plant Manager. Works in cooperation with Operations personnel, regarding matters pertaining to the daily operations of the Plant.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Power plant environment. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will be required.
Compensation
The initial starting compensation will range from $50 to $60 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus.
Job Qualifications
•Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school, with a preference for an Associate degree in power plant technology or a similar technology or engineering degree; experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.
•Must possess a current and valid State of New Jersey – Stationary Engineers’ License – Blue Seal or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
•Proven success in technician roles within power generation, with hands-on experience in operations, startup, shutdown, and routine operations, and troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
•Skilled in working with plant components, such as pumps, valves, microprocessors, and electronic systems.
•Knowledge of steam boiler operations, electrical systems, piping and instrument schematics, process controls, and plant parameter inspection/recording.
•Strong understanding of safety protocols, including Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, OSHA requirements, and environmental compliance standards.
•Proficient in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), specifically the MP2 Module, for scheduling, tracking performance, and maintaining work orders and inventory records.
•Proven ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to optimize resources and ensure timely project execution, supporting plant operations and maintenance goals.
•Strong problem-solving abilities, technical writing and communication skills, and mathematical aptitude to effectively convey complex concepts and solutions.
•Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
