Job Summary:
Reporting to the Service Manager at Kenmac Energy, the Oil Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial oil-fired heating systems, including hot water heaters, boilers, furnaces, and hydronic systems. The ideal candidate will have experience working with both traditional and modern heating technologies, demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, and consistently follow safe work practices in accordance with Kenmac Energy’s Emergency Response Plan.
This position requires a high level of independence, time management, and attention to detail, while also promoting collaboration within the team to ensure exceptional customer service and compliance with all applicable environmental, provincial, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
•Service and maintain oil-fired heating equipment, including boilers and furnaces, with a focus on safety, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
•Perform installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hydronic heating systems, ensuring optimal system performance and energy efficiency.
•Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with heating systems, fuel lines, and system components; carry out necessary repairs
•Adhere to all safety standards and Kenmac Energy’s Emergency Response Plan to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
•Ensure responsibilities for MVI (Motor Vehicle Inspection), safety, cleaning, and general upkeep of the service van and equipment are maintained to 100% safe and operational standards at all times
•Maintain accurate and organized van inventory to ensure preparedness and efficiency on job sites
•Collaborate with other technicians and contractors to complete projects efficiently and on schedule
•Communicate professionally with customers to explain services, address questions or concerns, and ensure a positive service experience
•Assist in the growth and overall operation of the department whenever possible
Skills & Qualifications:
•Red Seal Certification or equivalent trade qualification preferred
•Experience working with hydronic heating systems
•Experience servicing and maintaining oil-fired heating systems, including boilers and furnaces
•Proven experience in heating systems installation, maintenance, and removal
•Commitment to maintaining and upgrading qualifications in accordance with industry standards (e.g., WHMIS, CPPI, TDG, First Aid, and a valid driver’s license)
•Proficiency in using tools and equipment common to oil tank work (e.g., pipe threaders, pressure testers, hand tools)
•Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations related to heating systems
•Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
•Strong communication and customer service skills
•Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently
•Legally entitled to work in Canada
Working Conditions:
•Full-time position, typically Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
•On-Call: Participation in an “No Heat” on-call rotation is mandatory
•Ability to work outside at height, on uneven surfaces, bend and lift and carry loads of up to 50lbs
