Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Nuclear Strategic Asset Management and Special Projects Coordinator located at Cooper Nuclear Stationin Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes June 16, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.


Position Summary

Responsible for development and oversight of engineering projects plans, from initiation through closeout, to include station modifications as applicable while ensuring accountability to Technical Specifications and plant procedures. The incumbent applies an overall approach to assemble a comprehensive plan and cover all areas of work which is at all times flexible and will quickly and accurately reflect the effects of any changes in any aspect of the project plan. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that assigned projects are safely executed on schedule, within cost limits, and to the quality specified.


This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.


Education, Training and Experience

B.S in Engineering from ABET accredited school, and at least: Ten (10) years experience in operations, engineering, work management/planning or maintenance at a commercial operating nuclear plant is required.

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, project management, business or related field from accredited college or university and ten (10) years experience in operations, engineering, work management/planning or maintenance at a commercial operating nuclear plant is required*

Associate Degree in a technical discipline and minimum of twelve (12) years experience in operations, engineering, work management/planning or maintenance at a commercial operating nuclear plant is required*


Licenses and/or Certifications


Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Plans and manages work activities to ensure successful project execution while maintaining safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence.


Often working under the supervision of a Project Director or above, demonstrates and provides project leadership in their area of responsibility.



Supervises and delegates tasks among staff.


Monitors day-today activities and consistently demonstrates the ability to proactively identify potential project problems or opportunities, analyze the issues using all appropriate resources, develop alternatives, and arrive at the most optimum approach to mitigate problems or exploit opportunities.


Demonstrates knowledge of resources and capabilities of other groups for appropriate incorporation into project organization.


Clearly understands the scope of work and requirements that pertain to his/her area of responsibility.


Supports or conducts formal status reporting and presentations to management, external parties/organizations and/or vendors.


Prepare and present written and oral communications to various groups including senior management and regulatory bodies.


Participate in Cooper Nuclear Station committees as assigned.


Participate and support Cooper Nuclear Station performance improvement activities and corrective action program.


Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.


Pay Grade - 15 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $9,155.00 - $11,673.00


Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
