General Accountabilities:
•Provide front-line technical support for a wide range of telecommunications systems and networks, including LAN/WAN data services, voice, power system telecom, commercial, and public sector networks, on a rotating shift basis.
•Monitor network infrastructure such as microwave towers, telecom shelters, and points of presence (POPs), and respond accordingly based on network alerts and alarms.
•Deliver incident management support to minimize outage duration through coordination and escalation with internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., telecommunications carriers, vendors).
•Perform incident analysis, triage, and alarm correlation using the organization's current ticketing system.
•Conduct shift turnover meetings to ensure seamless information flow between shifts.
•Execute impact analysis and accurately document affected services during high-priority network events.
•Manage planned telecom changes and service outages, ensuring minimal impact to end users.
•Participate in emergency backup testing at the organization’s disaster recovery facility.
•Assist in special projects or assignments such as participating in committees, contributing to telecom-related studies, developing policies and procedures, and evaluating new technologies or services.
•Support the planning and execution of current and future work programs by recommending improvements based on industry trends and internal needs.
•Contribute to the development and implementation of telecom system designs that support network reliability.
•Assist in preparing engineering designs, specifications, cost estimates, and work instructions for telecom infrastructure projects.
•Provide specialized telecom engineering support and consultation to other internal departments.
•Monitor alarm and acceptance testing, and perform remote inspections of telecom facilities as needed.
•Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with a focus on telecommunications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Strong foundational knowledge of telecommunications principles, including computer science, RF engineering, electromagnetic theory, electronics, and structural mechanics.
•Familiarity with commercial telecom technologies, services, LAN/WAN platforms, and integrated voice/data/video applications.
Experience:
•4–6 years of related experience in telecommunications systems and network operations.
•Experience with the operation and maintenance of fibre optic and wired transmission systems.
•Strong working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure, policies, and standard operating procedures.
Skills:
•Proven ability to manage and troubleshoot network incidents in real time.
•Proficiency with network monitoring tools, alarm correlation, and ticketing systems.
•Excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors effectively.
•Strong analytical thinking, with the ability to document, escalate, and resolve technical issues.
