Mechanic performs various types of repair work, preventive maintenance and overhauls on industrial 2 and 4 cycle engines. (Cooper, Caterpillar, Waukesha and Clark brand engines, pumps, vehicles, hydraulic equipment, gas turbines, gas compressors, mechanical seals, horizontal coolers and parts associated with these items) Analyzes and troubleshoots equipment for defects in operation of the equipment. Dismantles equipment plus performs clean up tasks associated with these tasks. Uses hand tools, power tools, and electronic diagnostic equipment, understands equipment repair manuals. May be required to perform lockout/tagout, starting/stopping of equipment, and perform equipment checks.
Mechanic will be required to work in and around mechanical, industrial and electrical equipment indoors and outdoors. Required to climb various equipment types and work in confined areas. Mechanic must be able to work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment. Mechanic will be required to wear safety equipment as needed. Mechanic will be working and climbing at various heights and may work in confined spaces between tanks, compressors and vessels. Mechanic may work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position on an as needed basis. Mechanic must be able to regularly bend, stoop, move from ground level to higher levels, raise/lift from ground level up to 50 lbs., and manually transport a load up to 70 lbs., and apply up to 200 foot pounds of torque. Mechanic must have the ability to get in and out of vehicles regularly and ride over rough roads on an as needed basis. Mechanic must be willing to work overtime.
Mechanic will be responsible for performing overhauls and mechanical maintenance in designated areas of responsibility. Employee will operate controls and turn valves to start compressor engines, pumps and auxiliary equipment. Employee will respond to problems by troubleshooting, diagnostic testing (utilizing computer software as applicable), repairing/adjusting equipment as needed, conferring with co-workers and supervisors for advice and other techniques as learned in the classroom and field. Employee will ensure field equipment is operating under current emissions guidelines/standards. Employee will recommend parts / service needs to supervisor for current pricing on parts / services.
Employee will have the ability to determine the most cost-effective/timely/efficient method for repairs. Employee will take oil samples, complete necessary paperwork and submit for laboratory analysis. Employee will maintain and operate the equipment using hand tools and power tools in a safe manner. Employee is responsible for maintaining replacement/repair parts for their assigned units. Employee will operate cranes in a safe manner, safely and properly assist in disassembly and removal of unit from locations and have the ability to use hand tools to clean, lubricate, adjust equipment, replace filters, gaskets and other items while identifying what kind of maintenance is needed. Employee will have a working knowledge of electrical systems.. Employee will have working knowledge of pneumatic and electric starters, fuel systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, ignition systems and other compression related anatomy.
Employee must be able to comprehend and retain new policies, procedures and methods/techniques used in the office and field, being flexible to work in a changing environment. Employee will be expected to show progress/advancement in their skill level and the application of their knowledge. Employee will accurately report time in accordance with work performed. Employee will communicate information effectively with all levels of co-workers by telephone, written form, e-mail or in person.
Employee will be available for call-outs (evenings/nights, weekends and holidays) as shifts require and travel as needed (work on units, training, etc. - may be overnight). Employee must be willing to work overtime as needed/required. Employees must be willing to take direction from supervisors and senior team members. The operation of company vehicles will be in accordance with company policies and procedures and will be performed in a safe and courteous manner.
