The ideal candidate will bring a proactive and collaborative leadership style, with a focus on continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and cost control. This position plays a key role in aligning mine operations with strategic goals and ensuring we meet customer requirements in both quantity and quality.
Duties & Responsibilities
•Lead safe and efficient underground production, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
•Oversee mine ventilation systems, including airflow, gas monitoring, and dust control.
•Ensure effective ground control programs in collaboration with Engineering and Geology teams.
•Direct short- and long-term mine planning, including stope design, sequencing, and resource optimization.
•Maintain underground infrastructure (e.g., dewatering, ventilation, roads, electrical) and coordinate capital improvements.
•Manage operational and capital budgets, ensuring effective use of labor, materials, and equipment.
•Support the use of digital tools and track KPIs related to production, safety, and cost performance.
•Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies and oversee implementation of corrective actions when needed.
•Support emergency preparedness and contribute to mine rescue planning and readiness.
•Provide leadership, coaching, and training to supervisors and frontline staff.
•Promote environmental stewardship and ensure alignment with sustainability goals.
•Maintain positive labor relations and uphold the terms of the collective agreement.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
•This role requires a combination of office-based planning and on-site fieldwork in an underground mine environment.
•Fieldwork may involve exposure to noise, dust, humidity, and varying temperatures.
•Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when on-site, including steel-toe boots, hard hat, and safety glasses.
•Must be physically capable of walking long distances, climbing ladders, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
