The Millwright Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery, fixed plant systems, and heavy equipment. This role combines strong millwrighting skills with heavy equipment mechanical expertise to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations across manufacturing and mining environments.
- Install, align, dismantle, and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other specifications.
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and power transmission systems.
- Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Service, maintain, and repair heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, haul trucks, excavators, forklifts, crushers, conveyors) to ensure safe and reliable performance.
- Inspect and repair engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, and drive systems on heavy equipment.
- Fabricate, weld, and assemble parts as required to repair or modify equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment logs.
- Collaborate with production staff and supervisors to ensure equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Support apprentices and junior mechanics with training and mentorship.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform timely repairs to minimize production loss.
- Ensure compliance with all workplace safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
- Required: Licensed Industrial Millwright (433A) and/or Heavy Equipment Technician (421A) or equivalent certification.
- Minimum 3–5 years of industrial maintenance and heavy equipment repair experience.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and powertrain systems.
- Experience working with crushers, conveyors, pumps, and mobile mining/construction equipment.
- Skilled in welding, machining, and equipment fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS) considered an asset.
