A meter reader is responsible for accurate and timely reading and recording of water meters to facilitate customer billing.
- Locate, read, and record residential and commercial water meters.
- Operates a company vehicle with an acceptable driving history.
- Follow basic billing and related customer service policies and procedures.
- Responds to customer inquiries regarding meter reading schedule, how meters are read, and other customer service-related matters.
- Operates within high accuracy standards in meeting daily reading quotas.
- Able to walk 3 to 5 miles per day, reading approximately 120 meters per day on average.
- Meters are located outdoors. Meter readers must make every attempt to find and read the meters regardless of the location and condition.
- The position requires a consistent amount of physical activity.
- There are no climate weather clauses and meter readers must work regardless of temperature.
- Uses a company provided smart phone or other communication device to report safety hazards and water leaks.
- Ability to use pump related equipment to access flooded meter boxes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Dependable, responsible, persistent, energetic, goal oriented, accurate and able to work with minimal supervision.
Requires ability to walk 3-5 miles per day in all weather conditions. Be able to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time. Climb a ladder, kneel, reach, use of hands and arms. Specific vision abilities include close, distance and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Constant exposure to sun, working in various temperatures and high humidity, exposure to noise and vibration, walking on slippery and hard surfaces and exposure to airborne dust.
- Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Computer experience a plus
- Ability to perform duties in a responsible manner with minimal supervision.
