Meter Operations Installer Apprentice through A - Montpelier

General Summary (What Is Done And Why.)

This position is primarily responsible for serving the needs of Green Mountain Power customers with a variety of meter services including reading and recording data from all types of meters and associated devices in assigned routes while monitoring and reporting meter conditions, disconnecting, and reconnecting meters, and troubleshooting meter issues in the field. Also, will be responsible for field related collections linked to a customer arrears notice or disconnect order. Work is varied in nature and will require travel outside of the assigned "home" base district to assist in other districts. Must follow Company safety standards and practices and be compliant in the proper use of personal protective equipment required to perform work. Incumbent applies working knowledge of basic electricity principles and technologies to work performed. Works under limited supervision and in compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Availability for storm work is an expectation of this position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.) Apprentice

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge may also be acquired through demonstrated equivalent work experience.

Working Conditions (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.) Internal

- Work is performed, on a limited basis, in climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). Length of day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to accommodate peak periods, customer availability and staffing emergencies.

External

- Work is performed extensively where there is exposure to outside atmospheric conditions or heat/cold or moisture, over all types of terrain and exposure to traffic while performing meter reading and repair functions. Work involves potential exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., energized meter sockets, aggressive dogs, disgruntled customers, poisonous plants, etc.).

Special -

Occasionally work requires scheduled and unscheduled overtime and incumbent will be expected to participate in and have an active role during storm restoration.

Physical Demands (The physical effort generally associated with this position.)

Work involves standing and walking for extended periods of time; limited duties are performed from a seated position. Work routinely includes pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds, such as meters, tools and test equipment. Will be required to drive a 4 x 4 vehicle during inclement weather conditions and enter and exit the vehicle numerous times per day. Deadlines, disgruntled customers, workloads during peak periods and pressure to achieve goals may cause increased stress levels. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate hand-held device and computer keyboard.

Working Relationships/Contacts (Positions, other than supervisor and immediate co-workers, with which incumbent has frequent contact and the reason for contact.)

- Periodic contact with customer service and credit & collection representatives to address specific customer concerns or requests; contact with T & D Operations personnel. Occasional contact with vehicle maintenance to schedule vehicle maintenance and repairs.

External

- Frequent contact with customers to obtain or provide information needed to perform the duties of the position.
