Immediate opening for skilled fabricator at historic Ballard Ironworks
We are a family owned and operated business with a small and dedicated crew of skilled craftsmen serving the Seattle area for over 70 years. We specialize in efficiently and accurately producing and installing quality custom architectural ironwork (railings, gates, fences, etc.) for both residential and commercial clients throughout the city. Our work often blends both old-world design elements with modern techniques, as well as contemporary designs built with a traditional, hand-made touch. We celebrate the true artistry of our ancient, and often overlooked trade.
We are looking for a skilled, capable and enthusiastic individual who can learn our methods quickly, assist the team with installations and begin producing quality finish work as soon as possible. Experience with custom metal fabrication, ornamental ironwork or other skilled finish craft is highly preferred, but we will consider investing in an individual who shows they possess the ability to learn the job quickly and successfully. They must be strong and able bodied and be comfortable using power tools and machinery in a safe and proper manner. A positive, friendly attitude and personable demeanor, ability to follow instructions and work with others and a willingness to take a proactive approach are also a must.
Our fabricators are responsible for field measuring, engineering, fabricating and installing pieces to exact design specifications. Our designers provide a clear and concise project outline and materials list along with scale drawings for each project. Fabricators each have their own fully equipped work station and fabrication table. We use mild steel components, MIG welding for assembly, and a variety of electric and pneumatic power tools for achieving clean and artistically produced finished products. Installations are performed in a clean and efficient manner, emphasizing sound techniques, professionalism and creative problem solving to achieve the highest quality results.
Our crew operates as both team and family, working together and individually to ensure maximum quality of life and product. Our shop is rich in old Ballard charm and character, yet kept exceptionally clean and up to date. We place a particularly high emphasis on personal safety, exercising any and all precautions available, and always watch out for each other in-shop and on-site. Weekly staff meetings are held to keep everyone on the same page with scheduling and availability, and to discuss any issues with safety, shop maintenance, supply needs and personal relations. We utilize the honor system wherever possible to build trust and accountability between co-workers and management. Time-off and shift start/end time flexibility is usually given when needed (within reason).
We offer an excellent range of insurance benefits to full time employees including; Gold Tier Health Insurance through Kaiser Permanente, Dental Coverage through Delta Dental, (2) separate Life Insurance plans and a short-term and long-term disability plan.. premiums covered in-full. Employees also receive up-to 80 hours PTO per employment year. Wages are kept up to date to reflect increases in performance, skill and work output.
