•Provides samples before and after each heat for quality testing and makes necessary adjustments to correct irregularities identified by the quality technicians.
•Monitors informational gauges, dials, digital displays and computer screens (e.g. Datacast) for furnace performance, iron temperature, weights, ingredient levels, etc. Make appropriate adjustments based on this information.
•Performs slagging operations to remove impurities from the iron surface in the furnaces and bottom pour ladles.
•Maintains appropriate quantity of iron in furnaces in order to maintain base heat levels.
•Repairs and rebuilds furnace refractory by breaking out old material from wall of furnace and then installing refractory material into furnace form followed by curing new refractory material following the sintering procedure.
•Completes various forms/documents to record data including heat temperatures, weights, carbon/silicon levels, alloys added, etc.
•Uses various material handling equipment including: fork lift, bridge crane, monorail crane, pallet jack, Skidsteer, jib hoist, etc.
•Utilizes various hand tools including: hammers, wrenches, pliers, impact wrenches, drills, hand-crafted tools (sample cup/dipper, slag skimmers, etc.), torches, welders, etc. Maintains all hand tools in good condition and ensures proper storage.
