The MV/HV Manager will oversee and support safe, compliant, and efficient MV/HV operations across utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. This role involves leading technical training, coordinating operational safety, developing switching orders, and managing vendor relationships for substation and MV/HV equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Lead the development and implementation of job-specific safety plans, ensuring OSHA compliance and safe work practices.
•Conduct and oversee training on isolation, grounding, and LOTO procedures, promoting safe operations in high-risk environments.
•Investigate incidents to determine root causes and create corrective actions with the HSE team.
•Create and manage sequential switching orders for new and existing substations, coordinating with the ROC to ensure safe de-energization and system stability.
•Oversee all MV/HV equipment testing, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance tasks, providing guidance to ensure standards are met.
•Retrieve and review fault data from SEL relays to conduct a thorough trip event analysis. This includes extracting and examining event logs, sequence of events, and oscillography data to identify fault characteristics, trip causes, and sequence timing.
•Provide a detailed report that covers the type, magnitude, and location of faults, along with any potential contributing factors. Based on the findings, offer recommendations for setting adjustments, maintenance actions, or further testing to enhance system reliability and protection performance.
•Technical Training and Team Development
•Design training programs to develop MV/HV technician skills, focusing on high-voltage testing, maintenance, repair, and safety.
•Assess and mentor team members, supporting their career progression and technical expertise.
•Scope of Work (SOW) and Vendor Management
•Develop clear SOWs for MV/HV projects, specifying technical requirements and safety standards.
•Collaborate with procurement to evaluate and select vendors, ensuring contractors meet technical and compliance standards.
•Prepare cost estimates to support budgeting and competitive bidding.
•Compliance and Documentation
•Stay updated on OSHA, NFPA 70E, and other industry regulations, updating company procedures as necessary.
•Ensure all documentation, from safety audits to equipment inspections, is thorough and ready for compliance reviews.
•Track and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for safety and operational efficiency.
•Attend industry conferences to stay informed of new standards and practices, integrating them to improve company operations.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
•5+ years of experience in the power generation industry
•Full knowledge of electrical systems, substation equipment, schematic drawing, and safety practices
•Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Relevant certifications in MV/HV systems (e.g., NETA, NICET) are a plus
•Experience with regional reliability organizations' policies, regulations, and laws
•Must have experience performing MV/HV testing, repairs, maintenance and remote support on sub-station and MV/HV circuits from 5kV up to 500kV+
