Scheduled Work Hours: Monday – Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Job may require additional hours as required including but not limited to support of refueling and forced outages.
Provides professional nursing care for the comfort and well-being of employees and coordinates services for workplace injury and illness cases. Develops and maintains preventive health care programs and ensures the appropriate design and implementation for various medical and safety programs throughout the nuclear division. Additionally, this role will provide support to ensure compliance with all regulations to maintain qualified licensed operators and qualified security personnel at our nuclear facility.
Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluate/triage injury and illness cases and determine appropriate course of treatment.
- Coordinate healthcare services for workplace injury and illness and ensure proper case management for return to work.
- Provide healthcare services directly to Evergy employees in accordance with scope of practice for state license and Evergy policy and SOP (standard operating procedures).
- Provide patient-centered care with empathy, kindness, and professionalism.
- Administer physicals, audiograms and wellness evaluations for required personnel
- Oversee medical professionals during refuel outages
- Respond to on-site medical emergencies and support outage-related medical needs
- Evaluate, treat, and manage work-related injuries under Workers’ Compensation.
- Administer vaccinations (Influenza, Tdap, Hepatitis B) and provide chronic condition counseling.
- Perform DOT/DMV exams, wellness screenings, and minor procedures for non-occupational illnesses.
- Oversee completion of FMCSA Clearinghouse requirements for DOT & CDL drivers.
- Assist as necessary in the application of random drug and alcohol testing program per DOT/NRC requirements.
- Facilitate and oversee new hire medical testing per job-specific requirements.
- Ensure program and policy compliance and recommend updates associated with Evergy policies, programs and SOPs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, including use of an electronic medical record system, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Stay current with NRC, OSHA, ANSI, and CFR standards; attend industry conferences for updates, develop and implement program updates to remain compliant.
- Conduct pre-employment, post-employment, and annual physicals per NRC/OSHA standards
- Participate in Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned
- Participate in Evergy safety and health services projects and initiatives
- This position requires that the candidate has graduated from a nursing program that is approved by the state board of nursing, in the state where the program is located. Graduate nursing programs preferred.
- Must be a licensed RN and have unrestricted state licensure
- Must have at least five years of experience in occupational health nursing as an RN or related fields. Given the critical nature of this role regarding patient care and program compliance, this role requires vast knowledge and experience to apply the appropriate discretion to make timely and accurate decisions regarding clinical assessment, care coordination, appropriate case management and will require an appropriate level of program knowledge for program compliance critical to Work Creek.

Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must be a licensed LPN or RN and have unrestricted state licensure
Must be able to maintain unescorted access at our nuclear facility
Working conditions will vary from office to field environment. Must be able to work additional hours, both indoors and outdoors, on short notice in all types of weather.
