Paragon Energy Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join our growing team in our Fort Worth, Texas office. In this role, you’ll apply sound engineering principles to develop, implement, test, and evaluate equipment used in nuclear safety-related applications. You’ll be part of a team that delivers accurate, technically proficient designs for mechanical and electromechanical equipment, creating innovative solutions for operating challenges at existing nuclear power plants, upcoming next generation reactor companies, and Department of Energy/Department of Defense nuclear facilities.
- Contract review to ensure all client requirements are met and projects are set up for successful execution.
- Identifies and understands applicable industry standards as required for the project.
- Ability to read and understand design specifications and technical drawings.
- Compiles and reviews existing mechanical designs and specifications for purchasing or fabrication.
- Collect basic information about material or equipment for projects.
- Preparation of Bills of Materials and purchase orders for materials.
- Evaluate and provide feedback to proposals, quotes, and bids from vendors in support of the sales team.
- Selects vendors to purchase products; visit vendor facilities to conduct inspections, audits, or performance reviews and ensure that required standards are met.
- Identifies the critical characteristics of a nuclear safety related component that needs to be verified during testing and inspection to ensure it performs its intended safety function in a nuclear power plant.
- Writes and coordinates test plans and test reports.
- Performs engineering calculations necessary to support critical design or analysis of equipment.
- Technical execution of projects including coordinating with engineers, technicians, and project managers.
- Technical oversight of project related work, project deliverables, and associated submittals to customers.
- Understands and reports status of project milestones timely and accurately to key project stakeholders.
- Meets project timeline and scheduled due dates.
- Maintains complete, updated, and accurate project files that contain all appropriate engineering elements.
- Identify and resolve non-conformances to contractual or industry requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
- Experience in the nuclear industry or related fields is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, HVAC, or design/fabrication is highly valued.
- Proficient in SolidWorks or comparable CAD software; experience with ANSYS, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and 3D modeling.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to engage across all levels of the organization.
- Occasional travel may be required to support project execution.
