Job Description
Beyond Energy Services & Technology is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the mechanical engineering team to help design surface and downhole equipment. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing new and maintaining existing Rotating Control Devices and Managed Pressure Drilling products. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical assemblies/parts, completing drawings, creating design packages, writing up technical reports and executing technical analyses. The candidate will be ensuring conformity and compliance in relation to the required specifications and procedures outlined by the organization
Key Responsibilities
•Independently execute design and documentation of Beyond Energy’s product lines
•Improve existing and develop new product lines
•Produce concept to final models and drawings throughout the applicable stages of product design as per Beyond Energy’s requirements
•Design mechanical assemblies and components for surface pressure control equipment
•Complete drawings and drawing/design packages as required including applicable technical analyses
•Complete accurate documentation of design work
•Assist and support technicians with assembly and testing of prototypes
•Create and implement procedures and policies to support the manufacturing department
•Troubleshoot problems, evaluate and implement improvements to existing equipment
•Mentor junior personnel and provide sound advice to other departments
•Keep abreast of new technologies and infuse new ideas into the department
•Provides assistance and oversight for the creation of supporting documentation
•Complete projects and other duties as assigned by manager
•Provide input to the development of purchasing policies and procedures
•Stay current with the internal and external factors impacting procurement function
•Advise departments of lead time required to obtain products or services
•Actively participate in equipment and process familiarization
•May include direct supervision of other technical and non-technical staff
•Responsible for technical review and approval of manufacturing drawings and engineering analysis completed by other members of the engineering team
•Make recommendations to implement efficiencies and improvements in the RCD and MPD product lines
•Ensures all technical, commercial and safety standards are adhered to while meeting project timelines and budget requirements
•Seeks and identifies opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and reduce company costs on a continuous basis
•Participates actively in on the job training
Communications
•Maintain close contact with manager regarding work assignments, promptly report all concerns to appropriate Manager
•Report all incidents and accidents to the appropriate Manager
•Maintain open, professional communications with all co-workers, managers and company representatives
Safety
•Learn and perform all work in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and ensure compliance with industry and company standards
•Communicate to manager any unsafe working conditions that are observed
•Participate fully in all required HSE training
•Follows safety rules and regulations including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment in designated areas
•Report unsafe working conditions to appropriate Manager
•Actively participate in all safety meetings
Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree of Science, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of Engineering
•Minimum 5 years of relevant design and development experience
•P.Eng. registration with APEGA or ability to obtain designation promptly
•General working knowledge of Drilling and/or Servicing equipment and operations
•Technical knowledge regarding the detailed design of oilfield surface pressure control equipment
Essential Qualifications:
•Proficient with Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD software
•Proficient in 3D modeling and mechanical design
•Proficient with Microsoft Office
•Detail oriented well organized
•Able to adapt in a dynamic environment
•Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills
•Self-starter working with limited supervision
•Able to interact and perform successfully within a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
•Proficient with Autodesk Vault or other data management software
•Familiar with Project Management software/tools
•Technical knowledge of Rotating Control Devices and/or Manage Pressure Drilling Equipment
•Proficient with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
•Familiar with hydraulic/pneumatic schematics
•Direct experience working with ISO9001 and/or API Q1 quality systems
•Direct experience with product design according to API 16RCD, API 16A, 6A or other relevant standards
•Always demonstrates professionalism
Working Conditions:
•Full-time permanent role, working out of the Calgary office 5 days a week
•Site visits to the manufacturing facility in Red Deer or field on a as needed basis
