We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Mechanical Designer to join our growing team at Hi-Line. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for creating detailed designs and drawings for mechanical systems, components, and assemblies. This role works closely with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet technical requirements, industry standards, and client specifications.
- Develop 2D and 3D models, detailed drawings, and schematics using CAD software (AutoCAD).
- Collaborate with engineers to translate concepts and requirements into functional designs.
- Create and revise technical documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs) and assembly instructions.
- Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic calculations to support design integrity.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and fabricators to address design or manufacturing issues.
- Participate in design reviews, making improvements based on feedback and testing results.
- Participate in the preparation of estimates and proposals.
- Collaborate with fabrication and construction staff to examine fit-up and other issues.
- Maintain organized design files and documentation for future reference.
- Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting/Design Technology, or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of mechanical design experience
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD preferred)
- 3D modeling experience required. Autodesk Plant 3D is a plus
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Proficient in MS Office including Excel
- Knowledge of piping, structural systems, and machining preferred
- Hands-on fabrication or manufacturing exposure preferred.
- Field experience is a plus
