Mechanical Design Engineer (All Levels)

SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise to support decision making and problem solving in coordination with operations, maintenance and procurement personnel. Responsible for the development, implementation and administration of engineering changes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Responsible for design, research, maintaining documentation and reliability/obsolescence improvement.

- Provide guidance and assistance for complex troubleshooting of maintenance activities.

- Collaborate with Purchasing, Maintenance, Operations and Systems/Design Engineering.

- Prepares and reviews engineering evaluations for plant repairs/rework and conditions.

- Prepares and reviews non-conforming or degraded component dispositions.

- Evaluates the extent of the condition and its effect on the component's ability to perform the required design function including complex issues.

- Prepares, reviews, and approves engineering documentation (e.g.: specifications, analysis, drawings, evaluations, Design Change Packages, fault-trees, Plan-of-Action etc.).

- Reviews and evaluates vendor and industry documentation and event reports for relevant application to STP and identify appropriate corrective actions.

ENGINEERING OPERATIONS COORDINATION:

- Manages the interface with other departments and regulatory agencies by leading meetings and discussions to provide specific information and analysis of questions and problems.

- Performs duties of the Section Supervisor as delegated.

- Provides Management level reports on specific tasks.

- Prepares and reviews operability reviews of station problems or events; evaluate regulatory requirements for operability and submit written recommendations to Operations.

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge of design, operations, maintenance, and testing, preferably nuclear power (Preferred but not required for entry level engineer/specialist).

- Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and drawings.

- HVAC and Chiller experience preferred.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

- Accept Emergency Response Organization (ERO) position as needed.

- Accept outage position as needed.

- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.

- Successfully complete General Employee Training (GET) as required for position.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Environmental and physical requirements are subject to crouching, stooping, bending, twisting and/or lifting up to 30 lbs; ascending/descending stairs; sitting for extended periods of time; and spending considerable time in front of computer monitors.

- Periodic, frequent field inspections in a plant environment and in all kinds of weather conditions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.

- Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.

- Travel may be required.

- May be required to carry a phone

WORK LOCATION

- Hybrid/Remote – Due to the nature of the work, this position provides the ability for a hybrid work schedule between Site and an alternate work location. Alternate work locations require adequate technology, and a solid ergonomic setup is present. Note: Work schedules are contingent on business need.

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

- 1 year of engineering, maintenance or operations experience. (Required)

Sr Engineer/Specialist

EDUCATION

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

- 3 years of engineering, maintenance or operations experience (Required)

- 2 years is nuclear power related. (Preferred)

Staff Engineer/Specialist

EDUCATION

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

- 5 years of engineering, maintenance or operations experience (Required)

- 3 years is nuclear power related. (Preferred)

Consulting Engineer/Specialist

EDUCATION

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

- 8 years of engineering, maintenance or operations experience. (Required)

- 4 years is nuclear power related. (Preferred)

Principal Engineer/Specialist

EDUCATION

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

- 12 years of engineering, maintenance or operations experience. (Required)

- 5 years is nuclear power related. (Preferred)

- Engineering Management Team and GM approval is required to advance to Principal Engineer level.
