TerraStar is seeking an experienced Mechanic II to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicles and equipment with minimal supervision. Diesel mechanic and heavy equipment experience are highly are required. This role requires an independent, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in quality work and can mentor less experienced team members.
Working Conditions:
Most work will be performed in the shop or on the grounds surrounding the shop. Offsite work may be required, including in inclement weather. Must be prepared to report to job sites with little notice when needed.
- Independently diagnose and repair mechanical issues in vehicles and equipment
- Perform advanced troubleshooting for engines, transmissions, suspension, and electrical systems
- Lead and complete preventative maintenance programs (oil changes, filter replacements, brake jobs, tire service, fluid checks)
- Conduct diesel engine and heavy equipment repairs (bulldozer, loader, skid steer, tele-handler, etc.)
- Mentor and support Mechanic I team members in training and development
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations in all repair work
- Maintain clear, detailed service records and documentation
- Uphold safety standards and ensure shop/worksite is organized and hazard-free
- Communicate effectively with Fleet Manager and supervisors on job progress and timelines
- High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training strongly preferred
- 3–5+ years of experience as a mechanic (automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment)- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, schematics, and repair procedures
- Diesel mechanic and heavy equipment experience strongly preferred
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL a plus or ability to obtain CDL
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving and mechanical skills
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in standing, bending, kneeling positions
- Able to work in varying temperatures and shop environments

- Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or similar role.
- Strong mechanical knowledge, particularly with diesel engines.
- Proficient in automotive diagnostics and repair techniques.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to adhere to safety protocols at all times.
