Overview
The Transmission Operations department is seeking to hire a Mechanic B (WELDER) to support the department by using knowledge of welding, reading blueprints, and electrical schematics to perform routine welding procedures.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
•Mechanic B's are responsible for using blueprints, sketches, and electrical schematics to perform welding procedures.
•Mechanic B's are responsible for welding pressure piping and utilizing oxygen/acetylene cutting on steel plates/piping.
•Mechanic B's will perform welding procedures on electrical systems in enclosed spaces.
•Mechanic B's will utilize hand/power tools to perform maintenance as needed.
•Mechanic B's troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
•High School Diploma/GED and at least 4 years of relevant work experience as a welder with experience reading/understanding welding procedures, reading blueprints, sketches, and electrical schematics
Relevant Work Experience
•Selected candidate should have experience reading blueprints, sketches, and or electrical schematics. Required and
•Selected candidate should have experience working with hand and power tools. Required and
•+ Qualification in ASME B31.1 and API 1104 codes using shielded metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding. Required and
•Selected candidate should demonstrate skill in welding of pressure piping and oxygen/acetylene cutting of steel plates and piping. Required and
•Ideal candidates have experience with gas metal arc welding. Required
•Selected candidate should possess knowledge of sheeting and shoring. Preferred and
•Selected candidate should demonstrate experience working in safety-focused work environments. Preferred and
Licenses and Certifications

Physical Demands
•Ability to respond to system emergencies
•Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
•Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
•Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
•Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
•Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
•Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
•Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
•Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
•Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
•Acknowledge that if selected, must pass a Physical Abilites Test (PAT)
•Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
•Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
•Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
•The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
•Selected candidates are required to work in electrically enclosed spaces, excavations, on elevated platforms, bucket trucks with heights up to but not limited to 100ft.
