Covia is looking for a dynamic Mechanic 2nd Class who will have a positive impact on our team at our McIntyre, GA location. A Mechanic 2nd Class is accountable to ensure the safe and productive operation of the plant and must possess aptitude for multiple maintenance disciplines and be proficient in the operation of equipment associated with all functional areas within the plant.
The Successful Incumbent Will Have The Following Key Accountabilities
- Safety commitment including utilizing Covia lockout standards, following MSHA rules and regulations, proper utilization of PPE, and reporting all unsafe conditions and accidents
- Welding, able to weld with stick and wire, rod selection, all position welding, surface preparation, & demonstrate understanding of welding principles.
- Utilize cutting torch, demonstrate ability to operate correctly and safely, and utilize proper cutting tools and torch tip selection for the job
- Able to change out electric motors and basic electrical skills
- Able to trouble shoot mechanical drives, air flows, mill overloading, bearings issues, dust collectors, rotary valves, double flap valves, packers, air blowers, roller and hammer mills
- Understand and execute proper lubrication of rotating equipment
- Proper removal and installation of seals and bearings in industrial equipment
- Ability to repair or install gear boxes and align both shaft couplings and V-belts
- Work on dust collectors including, bag installation, valve installation and rebuild, and understand how they work and what DP readings mean
- Basic experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Installing and maintaining slurry and vertical sump pumps, with knowledge of operational theory of pumps
- Experience working on screw conveyors, bucket elevators, and belt conveyors
- Experience working on blowers and industrial fans
- Preventive Maintenance (PM) experience
- Perform other duties as assigned
The Successful Incumbent Will Have The Following Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Literacy in English, both verbally and written.
- Able to utilize computer maintenance system, including writing/completing work orders, issuing parts, and doing equipment reviews/parts searches
- Read and understand parts schematic and blueprints for maintenance fabrication and ordering/replacement of parts.
- Able to use hand tools and take and utilize measurements for maintenance duties
- Ability to calculate RPMS and FPM of equipment
- Experience operating mobile equipment
- Communication skills for working with machine operators or maintenance vendors
- Previous experience within mining operations, preference given to clay operations
- Prior exposure to an understanding of operational equipment
- Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying and managing risks
- Demonstrated experience contributing within a team of maintenance professionals to deliver set targets.
