We are currently looking to fill the position of Measurement & Control Technician based at ourUtica, OH Service Center. This full-time, non-exempt position is responsible for installing, testing, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical measurement and control equipment, including supporting telemetry equipment. An individual in this position must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in addition to demonstrating a high level of safety awareness, responsibility, technical ability and follow-through. Work is performed under general supervision and is checked by observation to ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations.
Nature and Scope of Position (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):
- Support and incorporate the Cooperative’s Mission, Vision and Values in professional behavior and decisions.
- Comply with all Cooperative policies, procedures, goals and objectives and meet attendance and punctuality guidelines.
- Understand, observe and enforce cooperative safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions to department supervisor and/or safety department personnel.
- Recognize various meter form types and classes to properly identify known cautions and dangers associated with each various types and class.
- Read, install, test, energize, de-energize and replace all types of electric meters, including transformer rated and 480-volt metering installations.
- Perform testing, inspection, and calibration of instrumentation and measurement devices.
- Assist with maintaining advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems.
- Recognize, document and report energy diversion situations to department supervisor and law enforcement personnel.
- Connect and disconnect electric service due to delinquent and non-payment accounts as directed by service orders or supervisors.
- Troubleshoot and assist members with various issues such as voltage concerns, high bill concerns, radio-controlled switches and appliance rebate programs.
- Treat members and the general public with respect and display professional and courteous member relations.
- Perform assigned duties, both scheduled and unscheduled, including working after regular working hours.
- Respond quickly to all outage and emergency situations, when requested.
- Assist the substation technician with various projects that may arise.
- Interpret and understand electrical schematics, one-lines, wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
- Performs maintenance of the Cooperatives various field equipment and controls to ensure that the locations’ structures, equipment, control cabling, cabinets, and all electrical and electronic equipment are kept in good condition and maintained to meet operational needs and the requirements of the N.E.S.C and R.U.S. standards. Performs other field maintenance such as installation of conduit, control circuits, mechanical fasteners and connections.
- Inspects, tests, repairs and calibrates applicable field equipment controls, motor operators, batteries, cabling, and communications equipment for all downline reclosers, voltage regulators, capacitors, etc.
- Installs, programs and maintains field Distributed Automation (DA) devices, controls and other communications equipment.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, operations and IT departments on installation, troubleshooting, system upgrades and modifications.
- Maintain a positive internal relationship with all levels of Cooperative personnel including upper management. Maintain a positive and helpful external relationship with members, developers, contractors and the general public in reference to maintenance and construction of the electrical system.
- Perform other related work in addition to other duties as may be assigned.

- Experience and Education: Two-year degree in a related field, three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience. Possess a good working knowledge of electricity and has excellent ability to reason analytically and relate theoretical concepts to actual needs. Must be able to read and understand one-line drawings and maps, as well as, must be proficient in using computers. Must be able to perform bucket rescue or successfully complete within one year of employment. Possess operable computer skills and a willingness to learn new skills as to utilize various software programs, applications and technology devices for work related functions.
- Certificates, Licenses and Training: Must possess and maintain a valid state of Ohio Driver’s License and good driving record. Must be trained and certified in CPR, First Aid and AED. An individual in this position must be able to travel to training classes or schooling that might be held away from the assigned reporting location, including overnight travel. Successfully pass the required tests and certifications necessary for this position.
- Language and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Effectively present information and respond to inquiries from others in a respectful and courteous manner.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with other employees. General knowledge of tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of the utility system. Must possess extensive knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to this type of work. Must have the ability to prepare and complete necessary service orders, and other written documentation required for this position. Must have the ability to meet and address the public well and to handle awkward situations arising from the disconnection of electric service.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - An employee in this position must have the ability to maintain sufficient strength to engage in heavy manual labor encountered in the work area within the limits of sound safety practices. An employee in this position would regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting and/or moving objects greater than 50 pounds would be done with the help of others.
- An individual in this position would typically perform the essential functions in an outside environment which include working in adverse weather conditions, difficult and uneven terrain, and involve extensive driving, walking, lifting and/or bending. Other exposures may include risk of electrical shock.
- Must be available for announced or unannounced overtime work to respond to call-out work during non-working hours, outages and emergencies. Must live within reasonable travel time of the Utica Service Center.
