WestCorp Solutions is seeking a Materials Engineer to support our client in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The successful candidate will develop and maintain equipment strategies for fixed equipment, with a strong emphasis on corrosion and mechanical integrity. This is a contract position which will carry through until December 31, 2025, with the potential for further extension based on client requirements. The ideal candidate would be local, as there is no camp accommodations available for this position. The shift is Monday – Friday working 8-hour days with client provided bussing to and from Fort McMurray and the worksite each day.
Key Responsibilities
•Develop and update equipment strategies for fixed equipment using Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies (API 581 equivalent).
•Evaluate damage mechanisms by analyzing process conditions and inspection history to determine probability of failure.
•Recommend and document mitigating actions based on RBI outcomes to reduce equipment risk.
•Participate in a multi-disciplinary strategy development process, collaborating with inspection personnel, mechanical engineers, operations.
•Ensure strategies comply with Alberta regulatory requirements, and applicable Codes and Standards for fixed equipment.
•Support technical analysis and documentation through effective use of engineering tools and computer-based systems.
•Contribute to the overall integrity and reliability of fixed equipment assets through structured RBI-driven assessments.
Qualifications
•Undergraduate degree in Engineering, preferably in Materials or Mechanical Engineering.
•5–10 years of relevant experience preferred; candidates with up to 10 years of experience in fixed equipment, mechanical integrity, or risk-based inspections will be considered.
•Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is required.
•Strong understanding of Codes, Standards, and Alberta Regulatory requirements for fixed equipment.
•Proven ability to independently manage multiple priorities and address technical issues with minimal supervision.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse stakeholders across engineering, operations, and inspections.
•Proficiency in data analysis, technical documentation, and use of engineering software tools.
