GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION FOR MATERIAL HANDLER
The Material Handler will increase work force efficiency by decreasing the time spent locating and kitting jobs as well as operate machines that move heavy equipment such as steel plates, fabricated vessels, fabricated steel platforms, and other products.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES FOR MATERIAL HANDLER•Choose appropriate lifting and moving equipment for the job
•Review production schedules and work orders to determine materials required and material priorities for jobs
•Build supports or braces as needed to stabilize objects for fabrication and transportation
•Operate highly specialized moving equipment, ie cranes & forklifts, to position materials weighing up to and including 40,000lbs
•Empty metal scrap, trash, recycling, and cardboard daily as need
•Inspect material paperwork to ensure company requirements are being followed
•Supply and distribute products or materials to production areas
•Load and unload trucks as needed
•Participate in regular safety trainings to stay current on safe procedures and practices
•Assist in movement, staging, and kitting of materials for work in progress
•Communicate and coordinate refuse pick up and bail cardboard as needed
•Take ownership of a forklift and perform daily safety/maintenance checks for it.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS FOR MATERIAL HANDLER
•Demonstrated safety awareness and training in a construction/manufacturing environment
•Able to operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and appropriate rigging material
•An understanding of materials for identification and contamination avoidance
•Knowledge rigging for safe controlled, calculated lifts
•Strong knowledge in general mathematics
•Familiarity with blue print and tape measure reading
•An understanding of center of gravity (COG), how to calculate, and apply to lifting/handling
•Accurate and professional communication skills
•Basic computer knowledge to include Microsoft Outlook, Work, Excel
•Experience with an ERP database
•Must have a valid driver’s license
EDUCATIONAL/PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS FOR MATERIAL HANDLER
•High School Diploma or equivalent
•Must be organized and able to monitor a number of orders from multiple teams/vendors
•Excellent verbal and written communication
•Previous forklift, tow motor and cardboard bailer experience required
•Outside work required, must be able to work during all seasons and weather conditions
•Must be able to lift at least 50lbs
•Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
•Will be required to stand or sit for extended periods as well as twist, grab, bend, and lift
•Must have accurate depth perception and ability to inspect and approve materials
