Scientific Drilling is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer II/III to join our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team and support the ongoing optimization of our surface mount technology (SMT) assembly processes.

As an SMT Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting manufacturing processes related to printed circuit board assembly. You will play a key role in improving production efficiency, product quality, equipment performance, programming and overall process control in our SMT operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Develop, implement, and maintain SMT manufacturing processes, including stencil printing, pick-and-place, reflow soldering, AOI, and X-ray.
•Support new product introduction efforts by developing process flows, work instructions, and DFM/DFX feedback.
•Select and optimize manufacturing equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
•Analyze and troubleshoot process issues, non-conformities, and equipment downtime.
•Program and fine-tune SMT equipment (Mycronic, Omron).
•Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with IPC-A-610 standards.
•Monitor and improve key manufacturing KPIs such as yield, cycle time, OEE, and scrap rate.
•Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
•Ensure ESD, safety, machine maintenance, and cleanliness standards are met on the shop floor.
Required Qualifications:
•5+ years of industry experience in PCBA/SMT manufacturing OR bachelor's degree in: Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
•3+ years of experience in PCBA/SMT manufacturing engineering.
•Strong hands-on experience with SMT assembly lines, soldering processes, and inspection systems.
•Holds (or previously held) an IPC certification, CIT certification preferred.
•Experience with design/manufacturing software tools such as Altium, Gerber viewers and equipment programming tools as well as ASCII files.
•Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar methodologies is a plus.
•Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
•Experience with rigorous PCBA standards, such as IPC-A-610, J-Standard and IPC Class 3 manufacturing.
•SMT equipment certification or factory training.
•Experience with AOI programming and tuning process.
•Familiarity with conformal coating, potting, or selective solder processes.

•Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 25 lbs. and under, perceive depth, and operate motor equipment.
•Conditions include working inside. Working around moving objects, machines with moving parts. Working around radiant and electrical energy. Work with heated soldering iron and flux. Working closely with others, working alone, working extended or irregular hours. Working environment may include but not limited to, intermittent noise, fumes, smoke, grease, dust, oils and solvents.
•Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computer and related equipment, calculator, special instrumentation, hand tools, power tools, air tools, microscope and telephone. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, reinforced toed shoes, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs.
