Job Description
Design, integrate, or improve manufacturing systems or related processes for oil and gas directional drilling tools, focusing on drilling technologies such as: Measuring While Drilling (MWD) Tools: Mud Pulse Telemetry (MPT), and Electromagnetic Telemetry (EMT), and Inter Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) Communications Tools: Micro-Hop (MH), and Short-Hop (SH). Collaborate w/ design, mechanical, and electrical engineers using SOLIDWORKS to refine product designs for enhanced producibility and reduced costs, w/ a strong focus on materials technology. Utilize SOLIDWORKS to design specialized tools, fixtures, and equipment aiding in manufacturing, assembly/testing of downhole tools, and create detailed technical drawings, schematics, or documentation to communicate design specifications and requirements to manufacturing teams and suppliers. Ensure adherence to safety policies and quality standards in manufacturing MPT, EMT, MH, and SH Probes and Gap-Subs by training production personnel in quality control technology, assembly, and qualifying processes of oil and gas downhole tools. Evaluate and select Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques such as ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and eddy current testing. Analyze NDT data and inspection results to identify defects and determine significance on product quality, performance, and safety using quality control technology. Investigate and resolve operational and product problems related to directional drilling tools, addressing material use variances, production bottlenecks, and challenges in designs, materials/processes through quality control and material technology. Apply continuous improvement methods to enhance manufacturing processes, leveraging product design and materials technology knowledge to improve reliability, quality, and cost-efficiency. Collaborate w/ engineering team and Supply Chain to address challenges in engineering documentation and manage vendor relationships and inventory. This includes rectifying issues such as absent components in downhole tools Bill of Materials (BOMs), inaccuracies in BOM parts, incomplete/ambiguous drawings, and incorporating manufacturing technologies for optimal resource utilization. Provide technical expertise and support and collaborate w/ Director of Operations to prepare periodic reports summarizing directional drilling tools manufacturing performance, emphasizing improvements in drilling technologies. Integrate new manufacturing methods and processes such as casting, injection molding, and 3D printing specific to downhole tools: MPT, EMT, SH, and MH. Determine root causes of failures and recommend changes in designs, materials, tolerances/processing method using statistical procedures, and prepare documentation for new processes tailored for MWD Tools, Inter BHA Communications Tools, and Gap-Subs, focusing on materials technology. Design shop equipment and lab workspace layouts for maximum efficiency in production of directional drilling tools, considering new manufacturing technologies. Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules/other downhole tools production process information. Design, install/troubleshoot manufacturing equipment for directional drilling tools. Evaluate and design qualification tests for manufactured oil and gas downhole products like Gap-Sub connection threads, assessing tolerances and surface finish against specifications and quality standards (TH Hill DS-1, API NS-1, and API-NS2) through rigorous quality control technology. Estimate costs, production times/staffing requirements for new designs of MWD Tools, Inter BHA Communications Probes, Gap-Subs, and other downhole tools, incorporating drilling technologies. Evaluate and improve downhole tools manufacturing processes to minimize raw material usage, replace toxic materials w/ non-toxic alternatives, reduce waste, and enhance environmental sustainability, guided by materials technology. Manage p rchasing of equipment, materials/parts for manufacturing and assembly of Probes, Gap-Subs, and new down-hole tools.
Requirements
