Description
The Manufacturing Engineer at Kratos will participate in ensuring safe and efficient design for manufacturability for our Precision Sheet Metal Shop. Our goal is to have products that are released from engineering ready for Production to run on CNC machinery to produce high quality, precise, repeatable products. This person will work closely with Engineering and Production managers to ensure the accuracy of drawings for production.
• Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving design, material, or processes.
• Understanding of the setup and operation of each machine to ensure manufacturability of parts.
• Review new products handed down from design/engineering, and planning for production
• Take feedback from methodically apply adjustments or additions to manufacturing prints or product models
• Reviewing and analyzing complex mechanical systems and understanding the interactions between parts to perform root cause analysis.
• Highly proficient in CAM software and Amada 4i, Streambend, Metalix, and other software as needed.
• Proficient in CAD software like Autodesk, Inventor, AutoCAD, and similar tools to create 3D models of sheet metal parts and generate tool paths for CNC machines.
• Proficient with Kratos part file storage locations and general CAD drawing rules.
• Begin programming of CNC code using industry standard languages to control the machine’s movements, cutting speeds, and tool selection.
• Investigate and resolve operational problems such as material use variances, or bottlenecks.
• Identify opportunities to implement changes to improve the manufacturing process and reduce cost.
• Use improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance reliability and cost effectiveness.
• Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
• Participate in a Safety-First team environment while working, including proper use of PPE: safety shoes, safety glasses, protective gloves, and hearing protection as required.
• Demonstrate a culture of 5S awareness, team wide, to maintain organization and cleanliness
• Maintain a clean work area.
