Job Summary
This position has the responsibility for the accounting standards, policies and application of technical accounting decisions/conclusions across the Avangrid Group (AGR), which includes both Networks (regulated) and Renewables (non-regulated) business affiliates in the Power and Utilities industry. This position also manages the research and documentation related to AGR’s accounting strategy and decisions, including acquisitions, dispositions and investor/non-controlling interest transactions. The candidate provides advice and guidance on accounting policy revisions to senior management and interacts with business managers throughout Avangrid. The ideal candidate will be able to identify, evaluate, debate and document complex technical and operational accounting issues, and has an ability to translate accounting concepts and guidance in simple easy to understand terms. The candidate will provide support for reporting processes for AGR in accordance with US GAAP through required filings with the SEC and in accordance with IFRS within prescribed reporting forms for Iberdrola’s global external reporting and internal management reporting & results. Other key responsibilities including coordinating with external and internal auditors and outside consultants and building strong relationships with these individuals will be required. The candidate will also liaise with Iberdrola’s global finance and operations organization to develop, amend and confirm accounting policies in US GAAP and IFRS, and will be involved in several initiatives for new accounting standard implementations, clarifications, and updates. This role partners with each of Avangrid’s businesses with assignments to support transactions important to the company and build a variety of skills that can provide further career opportunities. The role provides perspectives and conclusions on queries and requests that may arise in a timely manner regarding US GAAP, IFRS and regulatory accounting matters. This position will have no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
Research, plan and implement detailed accounting policies under US GAAP and IFRS and oversee new standard implementations at the underlying businesses. Work closely with the business and other corporate control teams to prepare, determine, and maintain these policies. Reviews complex accounting areas and matters (e.g., regulatory accounting, revenue recognition, consolidation, equity method accounting including tax equity, business combination, goodwill, derivatives, capitalization issues, impairments) Project-manage and determine impacts of complex operations and ad- hoc transactions under US GAAP and IFRS, including key contracts and orders entered into by the company, acquisitions, divestitures, and outside investments. Manages data on accounting practices and updates the Financial Reporting team by benchmarking the disclosures of other public energy companies. Assist in the coordination of all external and internal audits at consolidated and also subsidiary levels and resolve open comments and findings. Support financial reporting team with US GAAP and IFRS financial statements and disclosures, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q.. Develops regular internal reports to communicate accounting developments of relevance to management, including accounting change impacts, hot topics and standard-setting developments, and internal accounting training. Plays a key role in ensuring that the basis for accounting decisions is properly documented to support significant transactions, including the performance of internal controls.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field + Minimum of 7 years in accounting/auditing + Accounting or financial experience in a management role required + Direct and recent experience with SEC and US GAAP technical accounting, disclosure and internal control requirements
+ Strong understanding of the economic and financial impact of all relevant documents (i.e. financing agreements, operating contracts, partnership agreements, etc.) and partnering with the business to reach accounting policy conclusions and communicate impacts. + Strong self-starter and project management skills + Strong analytical and problem-solving ability + Excellent oral and written communication skills
