The CRC Accounting Department is seeking to fill a Manager - Technical Accounting and SOX position. This position will be located in Santa Clarita or Long Beach, CA.
The base annual salary for this posted position is expected to range from $150k - $180K, with a target annual bonus of 20% of base salary and eligibility to participate in our long-term incentive program. The Technical Accounting and SOX Manager will report to the Senior Manager Technical Accounting and will lead the organization’s internal controls over financial reporting and assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual Form 10-Q/K. This role will also work cross-functionally with internal departments and external auditors to ensure the integrity of financial reporting processes, assist with the evaluation and implementation of complex accounting standards and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements as well as providing technical accounting guidance across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Technical Accounting:
•Lead the preparation and review of the company’s Form 10-K (annual) and Form 10-Q (quarterly) filings, ensuring compliance with SEC regulations and U.S. GAAP.
•Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the financial statements, footnotes, and other disclosures within the Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
•Oversee public company disclosures outside of the Form 10-K and Form 10-Q filings.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather required financial data, disclosures, and other pertinent information for the filing process.
•Conduct in-depth technical accounting research on complex transactions, new accounting standards, and regulatory changes.
•Prepare detailed technical memos and documentation supporting the company’s accounting positions.
•Support business units with technical accounting advice related to new contracts, financing structures, and business combinations.
SOX:
•Lead and facilitate management’s SOX compliance program, ensuring comprehensive coverage of business processes and controls.
•Design, implement, and enhance internal controls in accordance with SOX and other regulatory requirements.
•Develop and maintain control frameworks, including risk assessment and remediation plans.
•Oversee control documentation (e.g., account reconciliations, journal entry documentation) to ensure audit readiness and compliance.
•Monitor and track audit findings, assisting in the remediation and resolution of identified control deficiencies.
•Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, facilitating communication and supporting audit processes.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
•Minimum of 7 years of experience including technical accounting, financial reporting (or a similar role), with a focus on public company filings (Form 10-K and 10-Q); years of experience should be inclusive of 3 to 5 years of Big 4 public accounting experience.
•In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations.
•Strong knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and COSO framework.
•Experience in the energy industry is preferred.
•Experience working with external auditors and managing audit processes.
•Strong accounting research skills, including experience in preparing memos and providing analysis on complex accounting issues.
•Knowledge of the financial reporting process, including SEC filings and disclosure requirements for public companies.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex business processes and identify control weaknesses.
•Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex accounting issues to non-technical stakeholders and senior management.
•Strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
