Job Description
This position is responsible for developing and designing communication plans for public/member involvement, communications and outreach strategies to facilitate communication, engagement and acceptance of company projects and initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Develop content to provide consistent, targeted, and impactful messages.
- Engage with project managers to develop, recommend, and determine appropriate communications vehicles to disseminate project or program information with stakeholders.
- Identify stakeholder perceptions of company initiatives and services, and make recommendations necessary to improve perceptions, build support, and advance project or program goals.
- Plan and coordinate community meetings including scheduling, location, and ensure proper setup and appropriate materials are present.
- Coordinate, facilitate and conduct public presentations including community meetings, community councils, annual membership meeting, board meetings, and meetings with elected officials.
- Contribute ideas for new initiatives through research and recommend innovative communications and outreach techniques.
- Anticipate and mitigate potential risks to Chugach’s reputation; promote and enhance the company's reputation as a responsible energy leader.
- Provide strategic and operational communications counsel to regional leadership through corporate communications.
- Serve as spokesperson for Chugach in contacts with the media when Sr. Manager is not available.
- As directed, draft, issue and seek approval to publish news releases.
- Support and recommend social media content for Chugach projects, initiatives, and key messages.
- Support the development and distribution of employee communication including policy changes, organization news, upcoming events, and other essential information.
- Support outage response communications on social media.
Internal
- Sr. Manager, Corporate Communications: Report to, receive direction, guidance, and decisions from.
- Chief Executive Officer: Provide information, assistance, and reports when requested.
- Communications Specialist: Collaborate with, exchanges, seek and provide information with.
- Other Employees, Managers & Leadership: Supports in communications efforts as requested.
- Board of Directors: Provides assistance as requested.
- Members: Communicate to enhance understanding and acceptance of Chugach’s objectives and activities.
- Professional Organizations: Maintain representation and create opportunities for mutual service and benefits.
- Trade Associations: As required, attend meetings, serve on committees, exchange ideas, and develop sound and mutually beneficial relationships.
- Vendors & Contractors: Provide guidance and direction, as necessary.
- Ability to lead the development of eye-catching, attractive reports, presentations and external materials that present data and technical information in common language for the public.
- Experience in developing and successfully implementing stakeholder engagement plans.
- Exceptional communications and writing skills, and presentation, and facilitation experience.
- Experience developing and recommending strategic short- and long-range objectives and evaluation for team performance.
- Proven ability to work and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to use discretion and judgement to develop sound solutions to complex and non-standardized problems.
- Ability to interact with all levels of employees, the public, stakeholders, and members.
- Excellent collaboration skills to fully leverage talents of diverse people working together.
- Experience in media relations, to include providing official responses to inquiries, and providing general updates and communication to media.
- Ability to work and multi-task under pressure, respond quickly to changing situations in complex project environments, prepare responses/narrative quickly and clearly.
- Ability to schedule work and deliver results according to schedule. Ability to adjust or reprioritize deliverables as necessary.
- Electric utility industry knowledge is desirable but not required.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment with occasional non-traditional work hours to include nights and weekends. After-hours, weekends, and some holiday availability to communicate outages or critical messages to Chugach’s members and/or the public is required. Occasional travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications And Experience
Education
Bachelor's degree in, marketing, communications, English, journalism or related field, required.
Experience
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in stakeholder engagement, media relations, or similar, relevant experience, required.
Substitution
Additional education in a related field may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Additional professional, relevant experience beyond the requirement may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
