Summary of Position:
The Senior Manager, SAP Center of Excellence (CoE) provides strategic and operational leadership for all SAP-related initiatives across the enterprise, with a strong focus on Joint Venture Accounting (JVA), Production Revenue Accounting (PRA), and Financial Accounting & Controlling (FI/CO). This leader will define the vision for the SAP CoE, ensuring SAP solutions are effectively leveraged to drive business efficiency, regulatory compliance, and innovation—particularly within complex upstream oil & gas or energy operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
•Define and lead the SAP CoE strategy in alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.
•Develop the SAP roadmap, ensuring robust support for finance, joint venture operations, revenue accounting, and reporting requirements.
SAP Expertise – JVA, PRA, FI/CO
•Oversee the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of SAP JVA and PRA modules, ensuring alignment with industry accounting and operational standards.
•Provide governance and subject matter leadership on SAP FI/CO processes including general ledger, asset accounting, cost center accounting, and financial reporting.
Team & Program Management
•Lead and grow a cross-functional team of SAP consultants, architects, and analysts across finance and operations.
•Oversee SAP projects including implementations, upgrades, and process improvement efforts.
•Manage project portfolios, resource planning, and vendor partnerships to ensure quality and efficiency in SAP delivery.
Stakeholder & Business Alignment
•Serve as a strategic partner to finance, accounting, operations, and other cross functional areas and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective SAP solutions.
•Collaborate with cross functional business units, and compliance teams to gather requirements and translate them into SAP solutions.
•Act as the liaison between business users and technical teams to ensure clear understanding and delivery of SAP functionality.
•Facilitate decision-making with leadership on SAP investment, transformation, and compliance priorities.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
•Champion modernization initiatives leveraging S/4HANA, cloud adoption, and integration with third-party upstream systems.
•Collaborate with IT systems integrations and analytics teams to provide enhanced end user reporting and analytics solutions.
•Analyze system performance, identify inefficiencies, and recommend enhancements to improve productivity and reporting accuracy.
•Stay current on SAP innovations, especially related to S/4HANA, and assess relevance to business strategy.
•Monitor emerging SAP technologies and trends to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
•Implement robust SAP governance frameworks to ensure data integrity, system security, and compliance with SOX, and regulatory standards relevant to the energy industry.
•Assist in coordinating audit responses and system controls around SAP environment and user access.
•Support audit readiness and the development of standardized, repeatable processes.
Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA or Master's preferred).
•10+ years of experience with SAP enterprise solutions, including:
+ Minimum 5 years of experience with SAP JVA and PRA modules.
+ Deep functional and technical knowledge of SAP FI/CO.
•5+ years in a leadership role managing SAP teams and enterprise implementations.
•Experience in the oil & gas, energy, or natural resources sectors strongly preferred.
•Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional SAP programs and digital transformation initiatives.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
•SAP certifications in JVA, PRA, or FI/CO.
•Experience with SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP, and cloud-based integrations.
•Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as FERC, SEC, or IFRS as applicable to energy industry reporting.
•Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Travel & Additional Requirements:
•Work is performed at a CIVI location Monday through Thursday with the option of working remotely on Fridays.
•Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
•Travel may be required to other Civitas offices and field locations.
