Summary
Job Description
The Manager/Senior Manager, Accounting will oversee accounting operations including accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger. Additionally, this position will drive efficiency and maintain financial integrity, streamline processes, and implement internal controls to enhance accuracy and mitigate risk.
Essential Functions
- Oversee monthly and annual general ledger closings to ensure accurate financial data and to produce reports on a timely basis in accordance with utility practice and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Review, manage and develop accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with research and documentation of technical accounting and financial reporting requirements under US GAAP and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Recommend disclosure requirements and accounting treatment for transactions.
- Assist with audits.
- Support company goals of continuous improvement and operational efficiency by reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities and communicate ideas to management.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports.
- Oversee the billing of miscellaneous accounts receivable.
- Manage and administer internal control.
- Review and provide support for the corporate budget, provide analysis of actual results and discuss variances with stakeholders.
- Administer and manage account reconciliation processes.
- Prepare and administer employee performance reviews. Plans for staffing, training and development of department personnel.
- Create and maintain the monthly and quarterly checklists to ensure all accounting tasks are completed timely.
- Collaborate with the Regulatory Department in support of rate and compliance filings.
- Assist in the implementation of financial software and tools. Monitor and identify major performance areas for enhancement via automation.
- Function as administrator of online banking system.
- Direct and manage the preparation of payroll in accordance with union contracts, policies and IRS tax laws.
- Manage the accounts payable process.
- Manage the preparation of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) reports.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has the supervisory responsibility for the Supervisor of General Accounting and those reporting divisions.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Frequent long hours due to deadlines and seasonal workloads. Occasional travel to seminars outside the state.
Minimum Qualifications And Experience Education
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, finance or related discipline, required. Certified Public Account license preferred. Additional specialized training in computer science, financial management and economics, preferred.
Experience
Five (5) years of progressive experience, including supervisory, in accounting and financial management, required. Experience in financial reporting software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards, required. Experience working in a utility/union environment, preferred.
