Summary

Provides strategic leadership and direct supervision to the new Strategic System Projects (SSP) Project Management Implementation Team responsible for executing the design and construction of major power delivery infrastructure projects—including new industrial substations, generator interconnections, and significant transmission system expansions.

Collaborates with cross-functional leaders to develop and implement comprehensive strategies for securing resources, materials, equipment, land, permits, and outages to ensure on-time project energization. Oversees the development and performance of construction contracts and alternative delivery methods such as EPC. Serves as a technical leader in engagements with external stakeholders, including current and prospective customers, as well as local and state organizations.


What You'll Do

- Manages, and hires, trains, develops, and supervises project management personnel—including augmented contract staff—responsible for leading the design, procurement, construction, and testing and commissioning of high-value, high-visibility, multi-year and/or schedule-constrained electric utility substation and transmission line projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV.

- Provides ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to empower, engage and drive high employee performance.

- Works closely with organizational staff in Project Management Development, Project Controls, and Portfolio Management to plan and execute the organization’s project portfolio, and to report on project status and health to various levels of management and stakeholders.

- Provides project sponsorship by effectively communicating and managing expectations and objectives to project management personnel, supporting organizations, customers, and other stakeholders.

- Oversees and approves project plans and project management deliverables including work scopes, schedules, milestones, budgets, purchase requests and customer agreements.

- Develops short- and long-range workload forecasts representing project volume, budgets, and resource requirements, including internal and external project management labor. Distributes workload details to stakeholder organizations.

- Ensures high productivity, efficiency, and quality by establishing and monitoring key performance indicator metrics for project management personnel. Leverages relevant data and industry best practices to identify and implement process improvements using by change management.

- Collaborates with organizational team members, business partners and peers to develop and maintain Project Management Office (PMO) tools, templates, processes, workflows, procedures, and policies.

- Provides leadership to the organization’s project management strategy, objectives, services, and change initiatives.

- Manages department’s capital and O&M budgets and oversees financial reporting of projects.

- Manages the procurement of materials and contracted services including project management services and construction services with supervision of vendor contract negotiations, administration, performance, and relationships. Manages the development and negotiation of project agreements with outside entities including large customer and municipalities.


What It Takes To Succeed

- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

- Strong understanding of project management processes, principles, and methodologies.

- Experience project managing and/or supervising the design and/or construction of electrical utility facilities.

- Strong people management, negotiation, and oral and written communication skills.

- Understanding of state and federal utility siting application processes.


Experience

A minimum of eight years of related experience is required (if no degree, 12 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling 12 years).


Education

A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.


Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
