Primary Purpose
JOB DESCRIPTION
Experienced and highly skilled petrophysicist that has worked multiple basins is needed to apply subject matter expertise to carbon sequestration projects in feasibility and development stages.The desired applicant also has rock mechanics subject matter expertise.This role fits within a multidisciplinary subsurface sequestration development team.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities
•Conduct petrophysical analysis and interpretation of well log, rock and fluid data to develop robust petrophysical models.
•Ensure petrophysical models are integrated into interdisciplinary geologic construct suitable for reservoir characterization and simulation analysis.
•Coordinate development of petrophysical workflows with Petrophysical Technical Authorities
•Plan petrophysics projects, identify and recommend appropriate petrophysical staff levels balancing internal and external resources as needed.
•Ensure quality and completion of petrophysical projects within approved timelines and budget.
•Identify and recommend appropriate software and tools necessary to implement approved petrophysical projects
•Design and recommend formation evaluation program plans adequate for subsurface characterization and regulatory compliance.
•Support drilling team in implementation of logging and sampling programs.
•Provide onsite support as needed (drilling, logging, core analysis, etc.).
•Ensure QA/QC rock and fluid sample analyses for integration into subsurface models and regulatory submissions.
•Effectively delegate petrophysics tasks to other contract Petrophysicist engaged by Tallgrass.
•Work collaboratively with other disciplines in a transparent, sharing, team approach.
•Mentor junior staff as needed.
•Gain/express proficiency with the Class VI permit process as it relates to the geologic assessment, development and operation of CO 2 sequestration projects.
•Support compliance team in reporting and maintenance of all applicable subsurface permits.
• Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
• Maintain a regular, dependable attendance with a consistently high level of performance.
• Work non-traditional hours and hours in the field as needed.
• Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an engineering or geoscience discipline.
• Masters or PhD not required but is a plus.
Experience/Specific Knowledge
• 15 (+) years' experience or more as a petrophysicist, 5 or more years working for an operator.
• Experience managing well logging operations.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
• Experience working with petrophysical software such as Techlog or similar well evaluation software
• Experience with pore-pressure, minimum horizontal stress prediction
• Experience with log derived mechanical properties and comparison to laboratory measured
• Experience managing direct reports and multiple projects across simultaneous work fronts
Technical Competencies And Skills
• Subject matter expertise of core retrieval/ handling and design/ evaluation of conventional and special core analysis programs including routine core analysis, capillary pressure, relative permeability, geomechanics, formation damage, etc.
• Expert knowledge of conventional rock petrophysical workflows including calculating clay volumes, lithologies, saturations, porosities, permeabilities, flow units, etc.
• Expert knowledge of seal rock evaluation including lithologies, threshold entry pressures, clay volumetrics, fracture analyses, seal integrity, etc.
• Expert knowledge of petrophysical workflows including deterministic and multi-mineral models with the ability to critically think and appropriately apply workflows for the rock and data.
• Expert level knowledge of old log and core data reports and comfort producing petrophysical models with vintage data sets.
• Expert level knowledge and interpretation methods of advanced logging tools including NMR, Dielectric, Dipole Sonic, Image Logs, Neutron Spectroscopy, etc.
• Expert level knowledge of cased hole logs, including pulsed neutron logs, saturation logs, cement bond logs, etc..
• Expert knowledge of image logs including resistivity and acoustic with the ability to process, interpret, and integrate the logs.
• Expert level knowledge of formation testing including design of the tests and interpretation; experience running tools such as the MDT is a must.
• Rock mechanics, fluid substitution, and pore pressure subject matter expertise is required.
• Mud Logging expertise is required.
• Experience working with a reservoir management team including geoscientists, reservoir engineers, geophysicists, operations engineers, drilling engineers, and other technical staff.
• Experience working fields on injection such as waterfloods and steam floods; experience with CO2 floods is a plus.
• Experience with well operations and making quick decisions including recommending tool changes; experience with Thru-Bit, Shuttle, Cased Hole, and Cordax a plus.
• Experience with wireline toolstring design, incorporating operational considerations and risks
• Experience with service provider selection, technical review and comparison of all formation evaluation equipment
Other
• Must be self-motivated and ambitious, ability to organize and prioritize daily work with the ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
• Individual is capable of problem solving autonomously, but is not afraid to ask questions when he/she arrives at a possible solution that deviates from the stated directions
• Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
• Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
• Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Working Conditions
• The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
• Primarily working in an office environment, with well site operations and travel as needed.
• Working after hours, nights, weekends, holidays as needed.
