Brooks & Nelson’s client is seeking a Manager – Mining Engineering.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Manager – Mining Engineering will be responsible for all aspects of improving mine development from exploration and technical reporting to operations and closure planning. The lead engineer will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary professionals to manage engineering projects. Additionally, the lead engineer will play a pivotal role in mentoring other engineers, project management, and conducting business development activities (e.g., identifying new opportunities, fostering strategic partnerships, and contributing to the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization). Domestic and international travel may be required for visits to client mine sites or for client and corporate meetings.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
•Act as the primary Qualified Person for technical reporting of mineral reserves
•Perform mine optimization and develop mine designs and schedules (surface and underground preferred, with a primary focus on surface hard rock)
•Estimate equipment, personnel requirement, as well as capital and operating costs for projects
•Perform project economic evaluations
•Provide project management and project management support as part of a collaborative team, which may include:
•Reviewing project submittals and correspondence including letters, memorandums, drawings, cost estimates, and technical report writing
•Training and maintaining use of corporate standards and processes for project deliverables
•Providing general tracking of project budget and schedule to assess progress relative to project cost and schedule
•Implementing staff training as needed for the program
•Lead proposal initiation pursuits and participating in business development activities
•Be responsible for financial performance of the program, annual budgeting, and regular reporting of program financials
•Lead a team of multidisciplinary professionals
•Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff
QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor's or master’s degree in geology, mining, geological, or civil engineering; an advanced degree in business administration would be helpful
•A minimum of 15 years of experience in hard-rock metallic mining, and/or consulting industries
•Registered professional engineer/professional geologist, or ability to obtain upon hire
•At least five years of project management experience
•Leadership and team management experience
•Experience in technical report writing
•Resource and reserve experience under US SEC S-K 1300 and/or Canadian National Instrument 43-101 regulation
•Cash flow analysis or financial modeling experience
•Extensive experience in commercial mining engineering software (Surpac, Vulcan, Carlson, Minesched, and/or GIS)
•Proficient in programming skills (e.g. TCL, Lisp, Visual Basic, and other programming languages)
•Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the mine life cycle and mine development processes
•Strong interpersonal skills
•Ability to work with a strong and diverse technical team
•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
•Proficient in technical writing with strong written and oral communications
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•Ability to prioritize work demands to meet deadlines while exercising independent judgment and working independently
•Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
•Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a workstation or desk
•Understanding of special hazards, including potential exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and explosive hazards
•Proper use of personnel protective equipment on clients’ sites, as per client policies
•Capable of frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, lifting, and repetitive use of hands while on-site
