The Manager – Maintenance provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise to multidisciplinary maintenance teams responsible for large power generation facilities.
Key objectives include: Provides management and support in preventative and reactive maintenance of power-generation equipment. Coordinates scheduled maintenance activities, both internal and external, to maximize efficiency while meeting safety, compliance, and performance standards in accordance with the Grand River Dam Authority’s (GRDA) processes and strategies to meet annual performance goals.
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for safety, compliance, budgeting, reliability, and all other aspects of the maintenance program for the GREC.
- Provides department level direction to maintenance personnel, schedules resources, and manages staffing issues.
- Champion strategic vision and direction of the organization, oversees, leads, and directs the maintenance department, and hires and trains personnel.
- Provides department level leadership for the development of assigned personnel, identifying, and addressing specific training needs, and fostering a culture of high expectations, innovation, and team growth.
- Provide a safe working environment through the establishment of the necessary processes, procedures, and training to safeguard personnel and plant safety.
- Use prudent management to achieve high plant availability and minimize potential for catastrophic loss.
- Rank and prioritize reliability and financial risks using data analysis and historical and predictive maintenance information from both internal and external industry sources.
- Collaborates with the Generation Asset Management & Planning/Reliability groups in overseeing long-range planning and execution of power generation unit outages, including management of cost, schedule and safety processes for outage scopes.
- Reviews, initiates, and maintains standardized maintenance procedures for all plant related systems.
- Monitor inventory while ensuring availability of adequate and correct spare parts for critical assets.
- Manage combustion turbine long term service agreements, outage management, and technical service bulletin reviews.
- Develop, implement, and administer predictive and preventative maintenance strategies for power generation systems including, but not limited to, steam turbines, combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators, medium and high voltage transformers, generators, switchgear, AVR’s, PSS’s, synchronous motors, and turbine governors.
- Monitor plant performance to ensure maximum availability, environmental compliance, and reliable operation. Communicate discrepancies and corrective action plans to plant staff.
- Perform and/or coordinate assessments and inspections to execute cost effective preventive maintenance strategies, design improvements, and major equipment component replacement.
- Provide oversight and support of a Management of Change (MOC) program, perform and/or coordinate assessments for proposed system modifications from a maintenance perspective.
- Creates specifications; prepares bid documents; evaluates bids received; prepares and presents reports and recommendations as required for the purchase of materials, equipment, services, and miscellaneous items associated with thermal generation facilities and other assigned projects.
- May assist in the training of thermal and hydroelectric generation maintenance technicians for installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures involving new equipment.
- Odd shifts and after-hours work may be required under system emergency.
- Assists in troubleshooting complex issues and may supervise repair activities as assigned.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external partners.
- Maintains an awareness of the latest industry research and practical application to drive continuous improvement.
- May represent GRDA in regional organizations concerning thermal generation facilities related topics.
- Creates, organizes, and maintains records for assigned oversight areas of the department(s).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Proficient in coaching and developing direct reports and junior team members.
- Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Excel, Access, and Word.
- Capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems.
- Posses and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.
- Demonstrated ability to give verbal presentations before large diverse groups.
- High level of personal accountability and ownership of operations and maintenance policies and procedures.
- Ability to actively engage subordinates and other plant personnel to strive for operational and maintenance excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent work experience with High School diploma.
- Five (5) years of power plant experience in maintenance, operations or utility scale capital project management
- In lieu of bachelor’s degree, ten (10) years of power plant experience including at least five (5) years of maintenance and/or operations leadership experience.
- Experience with advanced class combustion turbines and combined cycle power plants, preferred.
- Supervisory experience in power plant maintenance and/or operations, preferred.
- Contract and project management experience, preferred.
- Budget management experience, preferred.
- Valid Oklahoma driver’s license, or the ability to convert within 30 days for those with an out of state driver’s license that are an Oklahoma resident.
- Must be able to walk, climb stairs, crawl, work from ladders and elevated platforms. Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment.
- Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 50 lb. on an irregular basis.
- Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail. Manual dexterity is required for operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.
- Work locations range from an office environment to outdoors and/or indoors in a high noise/high temperature environment with possible work in confined spaces.
- The position is located primarily at the Grand River Energy Center in Chouteau, Oklahoma. Specific work may occur at any GRDA generation site locations, as assigned. Minimal travel requirements.
- After-hours repair work may be required under system emergency, system upsets or storm conditions.
