The Contracts Negotiation Manager role supervises a team of contracting experts responsible for providing contracting support for the Procurement function with an emphasis on contract negotiation, strategy development and the drafting and negotiation of terms and conditions and commercial agreements for a wide range of business projects. This role is also responsible for improving the contracting process and the development of training and supporting tools. This role will provide guidance and leadership to direct employees, other Procurement teams, and business leadership and stakeholders while ensuring compliance with all relevant Procurement and contracting policies, processes, and procedures
Responsibilities May Include:
Managing a team of contracting and data privacy subject matter experts
Leading and supporting Procurement teams in supplier contract negotiations
Developing negotiation strategies and providing front-line negotiation support
Negotiating various agreement types including master agreements and professional services
Providing subject matter expertise on company core contract clauses
Communicating and negotiating with 3rd parties for Phillips 66
Providing primary stakeholder support for complex projects
Managing responses to contract disputes
Collaborating with Legal, Risk and other functions for consistency
Overseeing contracts training program
Leading training and developing resources to improve contracting acumen
Developing and maintaining contract templates
Establishing alternative language and playbooks for templates
Serving as an expert on agreement terms and conditions
Transacting in Company’s Contract Lifecycle management (CLM) system
Advising Procurement professionals on CLM system navigation
Contributing to continuous process improvement of the Procurement and Contracts Organization
Handling special assignments upon supervisor's request
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, English, Pre-Law, or relevant discipline
15 or more years of experience developing negotiation strategies, drafting and negotiating contracts, and contract development
5 or more years of experience in managing a team or in a leadership role
Experience with a variety of agreement types (i.e. Master/Enabling Agreements, Third Party Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Data Privacy Agreements) and compensation structures (i.e. Lump Sum, Time & Materials, Unit Rates, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Juris Doctor or Advanced Degree
Working knowledge or firsthand experience with refinery, chemical plant, or midstream work processes
Working knowledge or firsthand experience with data privacy issues
Working knowledge of SAP, Icertis, and other sourcing and contracting systems
Thorough understanding of contract terms and conditions and strong ability to coach and advise others on application of same
Strong negotiating skills with a proven track record of executing commercial negotiations
Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills (i.e. critical and evaluative thinking) and the ability to provide practical, solution-oriented approaches to a broad range of contractual issues and risks
Demonstrated safety focus and ethical integrity
Capable of effectively developing and executing multiple contracts of varying complexity and the ability to constantly assess workload, balance client demands and prioritize work to achieve success
Strong communication skills and proven ability to effectively manage internal and external clients and stakeholders at all levels
Networking and interpersonal skills that result in teamwork, trust, integrity, and strong relationships
Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, self-directed
