South Norwalk Electric and Water, a water and electric utility owned and operated by the Second Taxing District, Norwalk, Connecticut, is currently accepting applications for the following position:
Primarily responsible for performing all aspects of maintenance and construction. The work includes the location of water mains and electric conduits, construction work, general maintenance, janitorial services, changing meters, testing meters, completing work orders, repairing water main breaks, maintenance of pump stations, tanks, dams, and filtration plant, light maintenance work on SNEW vehicles, installation and maintenance of electric vaults and conduits, and any other maintenance to be performed.
- High School diploma.
- Valid Connecticut Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B (without restrictions E, G, or, R) within one year of employment (required upon hire for Maintainer 2).
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the maintenance and safe operation of a wide variety of heavy and/or specialized maintenance and construction equipment and vehicles.
- Five (5) years water or electric system maintenance and construction experience or eight (8) years underground utility and production plant maintenance experience or equivalent.
- Experience in urban utility - particularly water - excavation, construction, and installation.
- Experience in plumbing, pipe fitting, underground utility installation, building maintenance, rotating equipment maintenance, diesel and gas engine maintenance, vehicle and construction equipment maintenance, and water metering systems.
- Knowledge of cross connection practices, understanding of basic hydraulic head loss theory including ability to perform and understand hydrant flushing and flow testing, and an understanding of disinfection practice and procedures.
- Must live within 30 minutes commute to the 164 Water Street office.
- Demonstrate competency in the safety areas of confined space entry, lockout-tag out, trench and excavation, construction traffic control, and other job related safety procedures.
