This is an individual contributor position responsible for assisting with all functions of the preventive and repair maintenance, electrical, electronic, and mechanical work for Pure Metal Galvanizing to achieve personal and professional growth. The Maintenance Electrical Technician assists with preventive maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and facilities with a learned level of proficiency. Responsible for learning plant equipment, including pneumatic and mechanical systems, clutches, brakes, power transmission components, combustion engines, and electrical and hydraulic systems. Performs basic electrical work and fabrication. Records labor and materials used on each repair. The technician must be able to troubleshoot cranes and be available to work different shifts.
· Testing, inspecting, repairing, and re-assembling basic plant equipment, components, and systems, including but not limited to: Overhead bridge cranes, Hoists, Gear boxes, Forklifts, Straddle trucks, Shag trucks, Company vehicles, Pneumatic and mechanical systems, Power transmission components, Combustion engines, Boiler systems, Electrical and hydraulic systems
·Deciding whether equipment can run or needs immediate attention for repairs.
·Coordinating and ensuring daily team tasks are completed according to the maintenance supervisor task schedule.
·Operating gauging equipment including tape measures, micrometers, and dial calipers.
·Operating powered industrial trucks, aerial platforms, and bridge cranes as required.
·Undergoing company training and authorization in confined space entry, hazardous energy control, and fall protection.
·Completing Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures while working on various equipment.
·Climbing and working from ladders, aerial platforms, bridge cranes, and roofs in excess of 50 feet.
·Ensuring tasks are completed on time and in full, minimizing production downtime; analyzing and resolving work problems to complete tasks.
·Running MZR furnace as required and ensuring that regular maintenance is performed on the pickling tanks.
·Undergoing company training and being required to work on the water treatment facility as required.
·Being potentially required to work in any maintenance job capacity and help in all areas of plant and maintenance duties.
·Supporting or taking a lead on equipment installation.
·Knowledgeable in all aspects of plant equipment and should be able to cover shifts independently.
·Using a multimeter to test circuits and diagnose issues.
·This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and also takes direction from the Maintenance Lead Hand.
·Responsible for hand tools, electrical tools, volt/ohm and amp meters and other testing equipment, welders, lifting equipment.
·Required to take considerable care and attention on the part of the employee to minimize damage to gauges, tools, and equipment.
·Demonstrates commitment to safety and responsible for maintaining the work area in a safe condition.
·Incumbent must work safely with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to Valmont safety training policies.
·Pre-use checklists will be filled out by the employee for forklifts and other material handling equipment.
·Should be able to read basic electrical diagrams and learn basic blueprint reading.
·Should have experience and knowledge in basic testing and troubleshooting.
·Identify and report equipment abnormalities and safety hazards.
·Complete record logs including labor, repairs made, and equipment used.
·Responsible for working with small hand tools including tape measures, micrometers, saws, drills, riveters, and nail guns.
·Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

·Ability to spend 75% of workday standing or walking, 10% bending or kneeling, 10% stooping, and 5% climbing.
·Climb and work from ladders, aerial platforms, bridge cranes, and roofs more than 50 feet.
·Ability to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work in a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as with exposure to outdoors.
·Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
·Work one (1) to two (2) shifts of overtime per week, if needed.
·Must be able to work any shift (Mornings, Afternoons or Nights)

The Maintenance Electrical Technician assists with troubleshooting plant equipment and facilities that require considerable independent judgment. Service manuals establish standard procedures for some decision making. Independent judgment is required when the task at hand becomes too involved. Seeks direction from a more qualified technician or Supervisor.
The Maintenance Electrical Technician spends time climbing, lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, pulling, stretching, and working in confined spaces and awkward positions, as well as working at heights. Incumbent handles gearboxes on top of machines, changing brakes, motors on cranes, etc. The average weight of objects is 30 pounds. Incumbent spends 75% of his / her workday standing or walking, 10% bending or kneeling, 10% stooping, and 5% climbing.
Must be able to work in high stress situations under adverse conditions for long period of time using intense mental and visual concentration. Good hand to eye coordination with a good sense of depth perception at all times. Must be able to distinguish colors. Requires methodical and analytical thought processes to follow complicated diagrams.
Responsible for the preventive maintenance and care for hand tools, electrical tools, AC/DC welders, and a computerized maintenance database. Must exhibit considerable care and attention towards equipment and parts. Must follow proper maintenance procedures to prevent improper installation of parts.
Must use considerable care and attention to equipment and parts are not lost. This cost could be escalated by improper installation of repair. The likelihood of damage is possible but can be prevented with considerable care and attention.
Typical injury to others could consist of electrical shock, cuts, bruises, burns, etc. Physical injuries could result from poor installations and repairs of machinery or improper use in handling or lifting equipment. Alert workmanship and caution can prevent injuries, such as broken fingers, arms, legs and / or crushed limbs. Responsible for other personnel assisting on the job.
Each employee is responsible for learning and applying all provided safety training as outlined by the company and department safety representative and / or supervisor. Keeping safety in the forefront in the daily performance of job duties includes personal safety, safety of others in the department and safekeeping of all company resources. The incumbent must complete all required safety training.

Most of this job is performed in an indoor shop environment. Most operations may expose the employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Some areas of the plant can be a noisy at times with sound levels reaching above 85 decibels; Hearing protection is available for those areas. Safety glasses and safety shoes are always required in the plant. Gloves are required during certain operations. Face shield is required in addition to safety glasses when grinding. The employee operates machines that use liquid coolant and may also be exposed to iron dust. The employees must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the plant environment. Some outdoor work is required which includes work in conditions with abnormal temperatures. Conditions range from clean work to exposure to odors, fumes, drafts, wet conditions, dirt, grease, smoke, dust, noise, high temperatures and low frigid temperatures. These conditions range from severe to mild and can happen daily and in any combination.
