Sortera Technologies is seeking a Logistics Coordinator to join our team in Markle, IN. The Logistics Coordinator manages inbound and outbound transportation for EOL (end-of-life) scrap metal supplier and customer shipments. This role is responsible for daily scheduling, carrier selection, and logistics performance reporting, supporting plant operations and customer commitments while seeking opportunities to improve freight margins. The coordinator works closely with production, sales, suppliers, customers, scale house operators, and third-party providers.
- Schedule 25-30 inbound supplier and outbound customer trucks daily
- Ensure efficient loading/unloading and timely delivery
- Manage carrier relationships, source new carriers when necessary, and negotiate competitive freight rates to improve margins
- Coordinate directly with scale house operators to develop and implement best practices for efficient truck flow and data accuracy
- Maintain accurate logistics records using ERP systems and truck scale software
- Generate and present logistics reports and KPIs to monitor freight performance and cost
- Collaborate with production and sales teams to align transportation schedules with plant capacity and customer requirements
- Serve as backup for scale house operations as needed, including weighing trucks and processing shipping documents
- Maintain all DOT regulations, safety policies, and site security protocols
- Occasionally fill in at the scale house as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- 2-5 years of experience in scrap yard logistics or scale house management
- Knowledge of end dumps, export containers, and dry van freight required; bulk scrap metal experience is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with ERP systems and truck scale software, including reporting and KPI generation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with 3-5 years of experience in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
- Strong organizational and communication skills, including effective verbal communication (in person and over the phone)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high stress environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly in logistics and carrier management
- Capability to work cross-functionally with suppliers, customers, internal teams, and third-party logistics providers
