SUMMIT Inspection Services Ltd. (SUMMIT) is seeking a Consulting Engineer to join our team in support of the Lifting Equipment Inspection program. SUMMIT has provided inspections across western Canada since 2004, and is seeking a skilled, experienced, and team-oriented candidate who values quality and integrity.
SHIFT AND LOCATION
•This position will be based on periodic projects throughout the year. Project locations and dates vary by the client
•Primary support will be in the form of offsite report review and certification
•Onsite support will be at the discretion of the engineer when not completing commissioning objectives
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Complete commissioning and periodic certification of lifting equipment (Note: SUMMIT does not complete work on Tower Cranes)
•Act as the Responsible Member for, and maintain, SUMMIT’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) with applicable engineering regulatory bodies
•Provide direct and indirect supervision of inspection activities
•Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to inspection personnel
•Ensure that the inspectors and technicians performing the work are competent to do the work
•Interpret or evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures
•Document and record findings identified in inspections performed
•Maintain certification log of inspected equipment
•Periodically review procedures to ensure they are up to date
•Understand and complete work assignments as per company inspection procedures, in a timely, effective and competent manner
•Perform the scope of work to completion and satisfaction of the client
•Understand local jurisdiction regulations in conducting job tasks
•Participate in jobsite visits, client meetings, and presentations to ensure successful project completion
•Responsible to adhere to all safety regulations, standards and maintain safe work practices
•Responsible to report any unsafe work activities, hazards or concerns
•Communicate with clients in a friendly, efficient and professional manner when interacting
•Resolve client questions, concerns or complaints
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
•Structural and/or Mechanical Engineering professional with specific expertise in cranes, hoists and mobile lifting equipment who is licensed to practice in a jurisdiction in Canada.
•Registered and in good standing as a P. Eng with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists at provincial designations APEGA and/or APEGS. EGBC is an asset.
•Previous experience as a Responsible Member in charge of a PPMP is considered an asset.
•Experience with the operation, maintenance and inspection of structural, mechanical, and electrical integrity of lifting equipment such as: Overhead cranes, Monorails, Jibs, Articulating booms, Side booms, Mobile lifting equipment
•Extensive knowledge of the manufacturing and installation of lifting equipment
•Extensive knowledge of the following codes: ASME: B30, B56.1; CMAA Specification 70 & 74; CSA: B167-16, B-354.1 & 4, C22, W59, Z150-20, Z150.3-17; ASME: B30, B56.1; Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code; Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations; British Columbia Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
•Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to read and write in English
•Ability to collaborate on assignments
•Strong attention to detail required to provide thorough inspection observations
•Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
