Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining and repairing specialized machinery and equipment and related mechanical and electrical components for the water and wastewater system, booster pumps, tanks at water treatment plants, sewer lift stations, pumps, grinders, wastewater treatment plants and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Collections Field Foreman/ORC.

Deliver excellent customer experiences in all interactions with internal and external customers.
Performs sewer pump station rounds, records readings, performs preventive maintenance inspections such as checking and lubricating bearings, gearboxes, checking and replacing filters, cleaning out wet wells, packing pumps, mowing and other preventive maintenance activities.
Maintains and repairs, rebuilds, disassembles, assembles, reassembles, installs, test and runs machinery, equipment and related mechanical electrical components including well pumps, aerators, softeners, filters, lift station pumps, generators, other water and wastewater plants and well site machinery and equipment.
Repairs, rebuilds and/or replaces valves, solenoids, ball valves, pumps, pipes, electrical components, etc.; performing soldering when necessary.
Troubleshoots minor electrical problems, mechanical problems, plumbing problems, and hydraulic problems, processing problems and other equipment problems.
Maintains and repairs pumps, motors and hydraulic systems and other apparatus and equipment; changes impellers, flapper valves, hour meters, replaces air release valves, cleans out lift stations, cleans baskets and grinders.
Maintains, repairs and replaces equipment components submersible wastewater pumps, grinders, check valves, injectors, scales, switches, receptacles, wiring, fans, starters, ballasts, vent fans, heaters, etc., replaces fuses, belts, chains, etc., on motorized equipment such as mowers, blowers, pumps and small vehicles, etc.
Collects water and/or wastewater samples from various locations for laboratory analysis and reporting purposes.
May be required to work outside normal work hours in emergency and on-all situations.
In case of disaster, either natural or man-made, as a condition of employment employee will be called upon to serve ONWASA customers. Service to customers during a disaster will result in the assignment of other duties, which will take precedence over duties described in this class description.
Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical and mechanical trades; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with general maintenance operations and ability to take and enforce appropriate safety precautions; ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions ; skill in the use and care of bench and hand tools, machines and equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and the general public.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in water and wastewater operations as described in the essential functions.
Possession of Collections I certification and Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
Must meet the minimum driving standards set by ONWASA and have possession of an appropriate driver’s license in the State of North Carolina.
