The Lease Operator (also known as a Pumper) is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of oil and gas wells, ensuring optimal production and compliance with environmental and safety regulations. This position involves monitoring equipment, recording production data, performing minor repairs, and coordinating with other field personnel and contractors.
- Monitor and operate oil and gas wells, compressors, tank batteries, and related surface equipment.
- Accurately record daily production volumes, pressures, and other operational data.
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs and maintenance.
- Conduct routine inspections of lease sites to ensure environmental compliance and site safety.
- Operate vehicles safely to and from well sites using company-assigned trucks (often 4WD).
- Monitor fluid levels, test wells, and make necessary adjustments to maintain efficient production.
- Communicate any issues, irregularities, or safety hazards to supervisors in a timely manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of lease sites and equipment.
- Work with third-party vendors such as water haulers, chemical suppliers, and maintenance crews.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., DOT, EPA, OSHA, state oil & gas regulations).
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 1–3 years of relevant oilfield experience preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of oil and gas production processes and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and other monitoring devices.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations in the oil and gas industry.
- Proficient in basic computer use, especially production reporting software.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs and ladders, and walk on uneven terrain.
- Ability to work on-call, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to work independently in remote locations.
