Position Title: Leak Survey Technician

Essential Functions:

A leak survey technician is responsible for identifying gas leaks within their given area of work, assessing the pipeline in order to record and identify the origin of damage and leaks for the client. They utilize many procedures and tools in order to detect and evaluate new and ongoing leaks. The technician performs leak surveys on each segment of the gas system and responds to leak calls to pinpoint and document leaks found in accordance with the federal Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. Gas Leak Survey Technician, your primary responsibility will be to correctly, safely, and efficiently conduct leakage survey as well as perform inspections on designated natural gas systems and facilities. This will require that you are committed to the high quality and accuracy of your work to ensure that clients expectations and compliance requirements are met.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Accurately detect and classify gas leaks while inspecting designated areas
•Locate and accurately assess the origin of damage and gas leaks
•Utilize power tools in order to effectively complete job tasks
•Use of prints, maps, and past records
•Utilize locating tools, technology, and equipment
•Effective communication with Project Management
•Following all company, client, state and federal code of regulation requirements.
•Following all company safety, quality and operational policies and procedures.
•Accurately complete all necessary data collection and paperwork requirements.
•Receiving daily jobs via computer/device.
•Performs other duties assigned.
Success Factors:
•Considerable system knowledge and independent judgment must be used as leak detection depends heavily on how well the readings from the equipment are interpreted and compared to the type of piping and the location of the system being surveyed.
•Successfully complete training and operator qualification requirements.
•Represent company and client in a professional manner.
•Accurately detect, classify and document natural gas leakage, atmospheric corrosion and abnormal operating conditions on client’s natural gas facilities.
•Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices.
•Working within and utilizing existing utility standard designs.
•The use and basic maintenance of industry standard locating equipment.
•Experience using basic communication and tech devices.
•Reading and understanding utility-provided maps and prints.
•Develop a knowledge and understanding of underground natural gas system and infrastructure.
•Communicating professionally when interacting with client, customers, peers and the public.
•Ability to function under time constraints.
•Excellent organizational skills.
•Ability to work unsupervised and prioritize work as necessary.
•Good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
•Must be able to work in fast paced environment.
•Capable of moving about on construction work sites, public streets and parkways.
•Capable of lifting up to 50/75lbs.
•Ability to stand, walk, kneel or sit for extended periods.
•Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various measurement, locating and testing instruments.
Experience and Education:
•High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
•Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required.
•Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
