The Lead Utility Worker

leads and works with a crew involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction of the District’s infrastructure including canals, pipelines, pumping plants, roads, buildings and other facilities. The main responsibilities of this position include evaluating and coordinating installation, maintenance, and repair tasks for water and distribution systems, and ensuring the proper functioning of various equipment and facilities. The Lead Utility Worker is involved in general maintenance tasks like weed abatement, carpentry, painting, cement work, sandblasting, and pipe installation or repair. This position may be required to work after-hours on emergency repairs and required to participate in a scheduled after-hours stand-by duty rotation.

The

should have a strong background in infrastructure maintenance and construction, advanced technical skills, and experience leading, training, and inspiring a crew. They should be knowledgeable in water and power operations, proficient in operating various tools and equipment, and skilled in general maintenance tasks. Safety-conscious and flexible, they should be capable of handling emergency repairs and participating in weekend duty rotations while prioritizing crew safety.

Licenses and Certifications

Benefits Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs)

- 5% increase effective December 16, 2025.

- Solano Irrigation District participates in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).

Retiree Health Insurance

- Employees are eligible for retiree health insurance benefits following 10 years of full-time service.

- 457 plan available, with Employer match up to $100 per pay period.

- Plans include Anthem Blue Cross HMO and PPO plans and a Kaiser Permanente plan. The District pays a portion of the premium for employee and dependent coverage.

- Dental provider is Delta Dental. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.

- Vision provider is VSP. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.

- Benefit is equal to 2x annual base salary rounded to the next higher $1,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. Premium is paid by the District.

- District reimburses up to $850 per fiscal year for eligible expenses.

- Tax deferred payments for dependent care, health care, and certain benefit premiums.

- Vacation is accrued bi-weekly at 80 hours per year during the first year. Employees accrue 12 days of sick leave per year, calculated bi-weekly.

- 11 scheduled holidays and 2 floating holidays per calendar year.
