Job Title: Lead Substation Engineer – Physical
LineWorks Engineering is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Substation Physical Engineer to join our growing substation team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and experience with performing system analysis, design, inspections, and other related assignments for electrical substations. This role is for an experienced engineer with a focus on substation design, electrical engineering, and project management within the electric utility industry. This mid-level engineer will apply their knowledge of engineering principles, substation design, and construction practices while exercising professional judgment to ensure quality and efficiency.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
•Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) preferred and Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one is a plus
•Minimum of 4 years of substation physical engineering experience in the electric utility industry
•Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
•Strong understanding of substation design, construction, and commissioning processes
•Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements
•Ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex technical problems
•Proficient in the following industry software: AutoCAD, grading software, Inventor and Microsoft Office Suite
•Willing to travel for on-site work responsibilities involving occasional overnight travel to locations for meetings with clients, vendors, and equipment suppliers
•Pre-employment drug screening, background check and valid drivers license
Key Responsibilities:
•Conduct substation system analysis and perform design calculations to ensure the safety and performance of electrical substations
•Perform assessments of substation installations and existing infrastructure
•Perform analysis, design and development of standard details, drawings, specifications and transmission/substation facilities, structures, and foundations
•Support the development and review of substation design drawings, specifications, and construction documents
•Stay up-to-date with industry standards, regulations, and best practices for electrical substations
•Collaborate with other engineers, clients, and contractors to ensure project goals are met
•Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other team members as needed
•Assist in the preparation of progress reports, compliance documentation, and record-keeping of transmission and substation technical documents and drawings
•Prepare contract documents and specifications, conduct evaluation of bid proposals, and prepare purchase requisitions
