This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position that will report to the Residential Solar Superintendent. The Lead Residential Solar Electrician is responsible for overseeing the installation, wiring, and commissioning of residential solar and energy storage systems while leading crews to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality projects. This role combines hands-on electrical expertise with supervisory responsibilities, including interpreting electrical plans, integrating advanced battery backup systems, enforcing code compliance, and coordinating with inspectors, superintendents, and homeowners. The Lead Solar Electrician mentors electrical apprentices, manages materials and workflow on-site, and ensures that every installation meets company standards for safety, performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Direct and perform the installation, wiring, and commissioning of AC and DC components of residential solar systems, including inverters, combiner boxes, disconnects, rapid shutdown devices, and load centers.
- Stay current with evolving solar technologies, code updates, and best practices to enhance team capabilities and company standards.
- Review and interpret electrical and solar plan sets, identifying potential issues and ensuring field execution aligns with design specifications.
- Lead the integration of battery backup systems (e.g., Tesla Powerwall, Enphase Encharge), including ESS wiring, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Oversee and mentor installation crews, ensuring adherence to best practices, quality standards, and productivity goals.
- Enforce compliance with NEC, OSHA regulations, local building codes, and utility interconnection requirements. Conduct site safety meetings and ensure proper PPE usage.
- Act as job site Foreman—planning daily work, delegating tasks, and coordinating with superintendent, inspectors, and homeowners to ensure smooth workflow.
- Perform system layout, precision conduit bending, wire pulling, and panel terminations while ensuring workmanship meets company and industry standards.
- Inspect and test all electrical work for accuracy, functionality, and code compliance before project turnover. Maintain detailed installation records and as-built documentation.
- Forecast, order, and track electrical materials and supplies. Manage inventory and coordinate delivery schedules to maintain project timelines.
- Diagnose and resolve system performance issues, wiring faults, inverter errors, and energy storage malfunctions efficiently.
- Represent the company on-site by communicating with homeowners in a professional manner, addressing technical questions, and explaining system functionality when needed.
- Safely operate and maintain company vehicles, lifts, and specialized tools. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked service truck/van.
- Train electrical apprentices in solar installation techniques, safety procedures, and electrical standards.
- Ensure readiness for final inspections, utility interconnections, and meter swaps, including documentation and compliance checks.
- High School Diploma; Technical Certification or Journeyman Electrician License preferred.
- Experience with solar PV system installation, including AD/DC circuits.
- Experience with energy storage systems and hybrid solar+battery configurations.- Advanced electrical knowledge or licensure.
