Job Title: Maintenance Department Lead

Position Summary:
The Maintenance Department Lead is responsible for facilitating the maintenance and performance of all primary, secondary, and support assets across the company. This role ensures the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our fleet and facility assets. Working closely under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Lead provides leadership and direction to the maintenance team, primarily during the swing shift, while also supporting day shift operations as needed.
The Maintenance Department serves multiple geographic locations and business units, with personnel typically based out of one primary site.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance:
•Manage the Grease Schedule for all asset types.
•Manage the Oil & Filter Schedule for all asset types.
•Ensure compliance with DOT and WUTC standards in partnership with the Maintenance Manager.
•Conduct audits of completed maintenance work to verify quality and regulatory compliance.
•Report on the status, findings, and compliance of Preventative Maintenance (PM) efforts to the Maintenance Manager.
Repairs:
•Perform repairs on various vehicle and equipment components as required.
•Coordinate with third-party vendors for certain repair jobs as needed.
•Evaluate the materiality and feasibility of repairs to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
•Collaborate with the Yard Lead and Welder on facility and asset maintenance tasks.
Rebuilds & Quality Assurance:
•Oversee and evaluate rebuilds; approve completed work for operational use.
•Maintain documented checklists to ensure rebuilds meet performance and safety standards.
•Provide weekly updates to the Maintenance Manager on rebuild progress and quality.
Daily & Weekly Operations:
•Spot check completed PMs; use documented checklists for evaluations.
•Communicate truck availability for routes to the Route Manager.
•Evaluate repair quality and maintain communication with the Maintenance Manager on vendor relations.
Facility Maintenance & Compliance:
•Support quarterly inspections at all properties to meet OSHA, UTC, and L&I standards.
•Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to understand and manage facility vendors.
Leadership & Team Oversight:
•Lead daily huddles and monthly safety meetings to promote team communication and safety awareness.
•Share team feedback, concerns, and improvement opportunities with the Maintenance Manager.
•Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to set departmental goals and track progress.
•Help mentor and develop the mechanic team; provide input on training and performance metrics.
Projects & KPIs:
•Assist in developing key performance indicators (KPIs) related to PM productivity.
•Participate in special projects and offer strategic input on mechanic team development and goal alignment.
Qualifications:
•Proven experience in fleet or heavy equipment maintenance preferably in waste management or transportation industry.
•Strong knowledge of DOT, OSHA, WUTC, and L&I regulations.
•Prior experience leading or supervising a maintenance team preferred.
•Ability to read and interpret maintenance schedules, technical manuals, and compliance documents.
•Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
•Computer proficiency for managing schedules and documentation electronically.
•Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or ability to obtain
Work Environment & Schedule:
•Work performed on-site at one of the designated locations: Pasco, Walla Walla, or Yakima.
•Primarily working swing shift; flexibility required to support day shift as needed.
•Physical requirements include the ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods; exposure to shop and outdoor environments.
Pay: $38.97- 41.18
