As the front-line supervisor responsible for operating and maintaining the treatment plant, under broad guidance, the Lead Operator is responsible for:
a.Running day-to-day plant operations and/or maintenance
b.Assisting the Plant Superintendent in ensuring that the daily operation plan is optimized for maximum efficiency and aligned with the goals established by HRSD
c.Following established guidelines to ensure a safe work environment and permit compliance
d.Performing all duties in accordance with HRSD mission, vision and values
Education
1.Required
a)High School Diploma or GED
b)Completion of HRSD’s Apprenticeship Program or an approved equivalent educational program in a related field
2.Desired
a)College level coursework in a wastewater related field
b.Experience
1.Required
a) Three years of experience in wastewater treatment operations and plant maintenance with completion of the HRSD Apprenticeship program.
b) Graduate of the HRSD Apprentice program or approved equivalent program
c) Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office products, Enterprise Resource Programs, and Asset Management software
2. Desired
a)Experience in a similar position at a wastewater treatment plant
c.Training Levels
This position is fully qualified at Grade 7 with experience and education noted above, a Virginia Class I Wastewater Works Operator’s License (Must be obtained within six years of appointment to the position). For those not fully qualified, the following training levels have been established:
Grade 7a – Completion of HRSD’s Apprenticeship Program and three years of experience in wastewater treatment operations and plant maintenance and a Class II Virginia Wastewater Works Operator’s License
Grade 7b - Completion of HRSD’s Apprenticeship Program and three years of experience in wastewater treatment operations and plant maintenance and a Class III Virginia Wastewater Works Operator’s License
Grade 7c - Completion of HRSD’s Apprenticeship Program and three years of experience in wastewater treatment operations and plant maintenance and a Class IV Virginia Wastewater Works Operator’s License
Grade 7d - Completion of HRSD’s Apprenticeship Program and three years of experience in wastewater treatment operations and plant maintenance and no Virginia Wastewater Works Operator’s License
