Job Summary:

Responsible supervisor for coordination of Health Physics-Industrial Hygiene (HP-IH) field supervisor and technician staff to ensure support for operations and maintenance priorities. Coordinates with operations and maintenance supervision to plan and schedule support for radiological work. Responsible supervisor of personnel tasked to perform health physics technician duties and can perform the following duties as necessary: Obtain competent and reliable measurements of radioactive materials and physical and chemical agents in both the working environment and internal workplace. Identifies and evaluates health hazards by performing routine and special surveys in plant facilities and offsite areas of work performed by ACP and contractor personnel. Recommend appropriate personnel monitoring devices, protective equipment, and working time for operators and research personnel working at the ACP. Performs instrument standardization, radiological, chemical, and physical analyses of samples, and uses instruments to make radioactive measurements. Records data on measurements, performs mathematical calculations as necessary, evaluates results, and compares with standards. Evaluates results and recommends to ACP management and line personnel methods to be used to eliminate or reduce hazards and/or health risks. Assists in the training of technicians; participates in the planning phase of experiments; and serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team. May be required to work shift work with infrequent management contact.


What You Will Be Doing:

- Provides direct supervision to Health Physics Technicians (HPT). Assigns HPTs to perform field activities. Perform supervisory reviews of HPT work.

- Participates in planning meetings and, in coordination with Radiation Protection Manager, establishes radiological and chemical safety requirements for specific field work.

- Reviews Safety and Health Work Permits and ensures Radiological Work Permits (RWPs) are in place when required.

- Advises HP-IH personnel, as well as operations and maintenance personnel, on safe work practices, including emphasis on procedure compliance, questioning attitude, and stop work authority, during pre-job briefings.

- Participates with research personnel in planning experiments related to measurements of radioactive and non-radioactive contaminants in the workplace. Recommend management plant areas to survey and provide feedback concerning schedule of activities planned. Offers suggestions and ideas pertaining to experimental methods and equipment used in performing study. Provides detailed information on individual responsibilities such as scheduling measurements or defining objectives.

- Monitors radiation levels and physical and chemical agents in the environment and internal workplace to determine contamination levels. Performs surveys and notifies Management when excessive levels are detected and recommends necessary corrective measures to reduce levels to allowable limits. Repeats survey as necessary to determine effectiveness of corrective measures taken to reduce contamination levels.

- Collects data using HP and IH equipment to monitor personnel and work areas for existence and/or extent of hazard. Logs data and prepares reports. Investigates exposures or incidents identified through monitoring programs or other means. Identifies potential health hazards and performs workplace reviews. Reviews laboratory data for quality assurance purposes and reviews computerized personnel data. Prepares summary reports for management review. Compiles and retains records concerning the calibration of monitoring instruments, i.e., pocket dosimeters and other radiation instruments.

- Analyzes reports and documents related to specific phase of health physics and industrial hygiene programs to assure that job responsibilities are adequately covered. Evaluates data to identify trends requiring further action. Reduces data to a useful, presentable form, including tables and graphics.

- Determines invalid functioning of processes and programs and suggests probable cause of problems. Determines that analytical results are within prescribed limits and/or determines the cause of variations outside the limits. Outlines action plans for further analysis and/or resolution of problems. Conducts investigation to determine cause and effect for sample results exceeding guides, standards, or limits. Provides health physics and industrial hygiene advice as needed. Provides timely feedback to management about technical problems, data trends, and equipment problems.

- Participates in the development and preparation of operating procedures and standards for monitoring and sampling existing or modified controls and methods. Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations on procedures that apply to group functions and responsibilities.

- Ensure records generated are complete and controlled in accordance with records management requirements.

- May be designated as RPM when RPM is unavailable.

- Performs other duties as assigned.


We'd Love to Hear From:

- Must possess a minimum of 20 years of progressive experience as a HPT or a HPT Supervisor; including at least 5 years of experience as a HP Supervisor, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

- Minimum of 4 years of experience at a uranium facility (uranium enrichment, fuel fabrication, etc.).

- Registration through the National Registration of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) is desirable.

- Candidates must have demonstrable ability to perform skills described in the Health Physics Technician task qualifications and document completion of all task qualifications within six months of assignment.

- Must have successfully completed the USEC Health Physics Academic Training; equivalent accredited continuing training from a utility (e.g., an INPO training program); or maintain active registration through the NRRPT.

- Training and qualifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.

- Must maintain a Q-Clearance or possess an L-Clearance with the ability to obtain a Q- Clearance.

This position will require a pre-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.

In addition, once employe, employees will become part of a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This position will require preemployment background check on the part of the Company and in order to receive a Q security clearance, a background investigation by the Federal government. Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required.
